Titans’ reported reason for not trading Mike Vrabel

The Tennessee Titans fired head coach Mike Vrabel on Tuesday, which was a shocking move, to say the least.

The shocking part isn’t the fact that Vrabel is no longer the head coach of the Titans, as there was plenty of smoke to the fire that the now-former Titans head coach wouldn’t be back in 2024.

But the decision to not try and trade him is shocking. After all, Vrabel could have netted the Titans a draft pick with how highly thought of he is around the league, and it’s quite possible he could have garnered a first-round pick.

So, why didn’t the Titans do what everyone expected them to and trade Vrabel?

Per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Titans felt it was too complicated and would take too long to get it done. She also added that Vrabel never asked ownership for a trade or to be let go.

The problem with a trade is that it could’ve taken a long time, which would have put the Titans at risk of missing out on some of the top head-coaching candidates in this year’s cycle.

While I certainly understand the reasoning, it’s something this team should have at least tried to do, especially when you consider the need for draft capital for an impending rebuild.
