Thousands of Scots 'set to bombard Keir Starmer's email inbox' demanding indyref2

A NEW petition has been launched demanding a second referendum on Scottish independence.

Over 2000 Scots have already signed the so-called “action petition” organised by Believe in Scotland (BiS), which organisers say will trigger emails that will be “automatically sent to your MSPs, MP, and the Prime Minister” urging them to support the campaign.

That means that thousands of people could be set to email Keir Starmer and their local MPs and MSPs demanding a second referendum.

“The issue is not about whether they personally support independence,” a message on the website hosting the petition states.

“It is about whether they believe in democracy, whether they respect the democratic decision of the Scottish people and their parliament, and whether they accept that Scotland’s future must be decided by the people who live here.”

Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp, the founder of the Believe in Scotland (BiS) campaign, said: “At the Scottish Election on May 7, the Scottish people elected a record pro-independence majority.

"Those 73 MSPs have a democratic mandate to demand an independence referendum. In simple terms that means that the Scottish people voted for a referendum – so the Scottish people should damn well get a referendum.

“The Scottish Parliament has now confirmed that mandate by voting to demand the powers to hold that referendum. That makes Westminster’s position even more untenable.”

He added: “This petition seeks to drive that point home to Scotland’s politicians. It’s not about whether or not you believe in independence – it’s about whether or not you believe in democracy.

“It is approaching 12 years since the first Scottish independence referendum, and now Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all demanding clarity over their constitutional futures. The Celtic Exit has begun, and the UK Government can no longer pretend that the Union is not broken.”
