This Legendary Race Car Builder Is Reproducing One Of Its Most Iconic Models

THE BREAKDOWN:

  • Lola Cars is building a limited run of new T70 race cars.
  • The T70S is for the track, while the T70S GT is designed for the road.
  • The cars use Chevrolet-sourced V8 engines that make 500 or 530 horsepower.

Lola Cars built some of the most formidable and iconic race cars in motorsport history. The company's cars have propelled drivers to victories in numerous series, including three Indianapolis 500 wins. Lola went out of business in 2012, was resurrected in 2022, and is now reproducing one of the most celebrated race cars ever—the T70.

Lola is making two versions, the T70S and the T70S GT. One is for the track, and the other is for the road. Lola is only building 16 cars, calling the T70S and T70S GT “a faithful rebirth of a motorsport icon.”

The road-going GT has a 6.2-liter V8 engine from Chevrolet. It produces 500 horsepower, giving the car a top speed of 200 miles per hour and a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds. The T70S GT also features climate controls, storage solutions, and a specific gearbox designed for the road.

The track version has a Chevy 5.0-liter V8 making 530 hp, a period-correct transaxle, and a double-wishbone suspension system. It has a 203-mph top speed, can sprint to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds, and comes with a FIA Historic Technical Passport, allowing it to compete in FIA-sanctioned events.

The new T70S and T70S GT were developed using original archival drawings. Lola has reengineered every component and is using sustainable materials and advanced manufacturing processes to build the new cars.

Motor1’s Take: Now that Lola Cars is back in motorsport, it’s nice to see the company honor its past with its new T70S, including a road-going example. The new car retains the original car’s stunning design, which we are excited to see on the road.
