This Ford Mustang GTD Was Made For America

The Breakdown:

  • Ford is launching an updated Mustang GTD Spirit of America for the country’s 250th birthday.
  • The car features an asymmetrical exterior livery with red and blue stripes.
  • This is Ford’s second Mustang GTD Spirit of America.

Before Ford even began delivering the Mustang GTD, the automaker rolled out a special edition called the Spirit of America. It was just an appearance package with some red, white, and blue accents. Now, though, the automaker is preparing to launch a new iteration of the car to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

The updated Mustang GTD Spirit of America continues to feature the Performance White body, but Ford accents it with an asymmetrical livery, the only noticeable change. According to the Blue Oval, the offset pattern "reinterprets the iconic Mustang tri-bar."

The spoiler plates and side mirrors are painted red, while the backside of the spoiler says Mustang in huge white letters, just like the first Spirit of America. Ford did not provide interior photos, so we doubt the automaker made any significant changes—3D-printed titanium accents are still here.

Like before, the Mustang GTD Spirit of America 2.0 is an appearance package. The supercharged 5.2-liter V8 makes the same 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. capable of reaching 202 miles per hour.

The car comes with the GTD’s Performance Pack, which enhances its aerodynamics and weight. It adds dive planes, a larger splitter, and underbody flaps. If you want one, you can apply here. The online application closes on May 18, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET.

Motor1’s Take: Ford, like other US automakers, is eager to show off its patriotism with America-themed liveries, special editions, and tributes. We expect more as July 4 approaches.
