Consultancy firm Bain & Company is the best large enterprise to work at in the United States this year, according to its own employees. A new report by Glassdoor, which gathers anonymous reviews from within companies, listed the best 100 in the country based on the platform's feedback. It was followed by Nvidia and ServiceNow, a company that provides IT management services.

Concretely, Bain & Company had an overall rating of 4.8 stars, its illustrative quote saying that culture, benefits and teammates are "amazing." Glassdoor explained that its algorithm considers the quantity, quality and consistency of employee reviews during the eligibility time frame to define the rating.

An analysis by Bloomberg showed that 31 tech companies made the list this year, compared to last year's 41, illustrating a loss of "luster," according to Glassdoor lead economist Daniel Zhao.

"It's still a great industry for jobseekers, but the shine has worn off to some extent. And the companies making a comeback, they're the old guard, so it suggests we're heading back to a more balanced job market," he told the outlet.

Describing last year's field, Zhao said that work-life balance gained more importance, as mentions of "anxiety" in posts increased fourfold. He added that Bain & Company topping the list for the sixth time answers to its reputation of career enhancement.

To be considered for this category, employers must have "at east 75 ratings across the nine workplace attributes from U.S.-based employees and at least 1,000 employees at the end of the eligibility time frame."

"For all categories, an employer must have at least a 3.5 overall company rating on Glassdoor and workplace factor ratings (career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture and values, diversity and inclusion, senior management, work-life balance) of at least 2.5 during the eligibility period," Glassdoor added.

The rating threshold resulted in last year's No. 1, software company Gainsight Inc., falling off the list entirely this year as it didn't receive enough reviews, Zhao told Bloomberg.

Google, the only company along Bain to always feature on the list from its beginning in 2009, held the 26th spot with a 4.5 rating. "Opportunity for worldwide impact, meaningful career growth, and awesome perks and benefits," was the quote chosen to describe the company this year.

Schlumberger, one of the world's largest oilfield services companies, closes this year's ranking with a 4.3 rating and a review highlighting: "professional environment; interested in best practices; supportive of research."

Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. is notably absent, missing the cut for the second straight year. In contrast, retail companies and manufacturing firms more than doubled their presence to ten and six, respectively.
