The Yamaha MT-10 Is On Its Final Lap, But Only In Europe

As a rider who owned a Yamaha MT-10 and rode it until the wheels nearly fell off, I can vouch for its status as the ultimate hyper-naked bike in its price bracket. That 998cc Crossplane CP4 engine, pumping out 158 horsepower with a spine-tingling roar, is pure adrenaline. The MT-10’s aggressive looks and sharp handling made every ride—whether tearing up twisty roads or prowling city streets—an unforgettable thrill.

But tougher regulations are squeezing the bikes we love, and the MT-10 is caught in the crosshairs. In Europe, its fate seems sealed, but in markets like the US, Japan, and the Philippines, it’s still tearing up the streets.

So, what’s driving this divide, and what’s next for this legend?

In Europe, the MT-10 is on its final lap due to the strict Euro5+ emissions standards that took effect in 2025. These rules demand cleaner engines, and Yamaha opted not to rework the MT-10’s CP4 platform to comply—a costly move for a bike with limited sales in the region. The MT-10 shares most of its engine, frame, and other components with the YZF-R1, which also lost its road-legal status in Europe for the same reason. The R6 faced a similar end years ago, leaving Yamaha’s European lineup focused on CP2 and CP3 models like the MT-07 and my personal favorite, the XSR900.

According to French motorcycling publication Moto-Station, As of April 2025, only about 100 MT-10s remain in French dealerships, priced at €15,999 ($16,879 USD) for standard models and €18,999 ($20,069 USD) for the SP. Once they’re gone, new MT-10s will vanish from Europe. I reached out to Yamaha for clarity on global availability but haven’t heard back yet. We'll update this story if and when we do hear back from them.

But beyond Europe, the MT-10 thrives where Euro5+ doesn’t apply. In the US, the 2025 MT-10 sells for $14,799 (standard) and $17,299 (SP), with strong demand for its aggressive design and performance. Japan’s riders can’t get enough of its CP4 character, and here in the Philippines, where it’s priced at ₱1.099 million (about $18,800 USD), sales remain solid. I spoke with a Yamaha dealership who confirmed the MT-10 will continue to be sold with no signs of Yamaha HQ pulling the plug—at least for now.

Granted, these markets benefit from less stringent emissions rules, like Euro4 in Asia (which isn’t even fully enforced in the Philippines) and EPA standards in the US, allowing Yamaha to keep the MT-10 in production without major changes.

So what’s next for the MT-10? Its future depends on emissions trends and Yamaha’s priorities. In the US, the Trump administration’s shift away from electrification and aggressive climate policies might delay stricter emissions rules. If the EPA takes a lighter touch, gas-powered beasts like the MT-10 could ride on longer, especially with steady American demand for big bikes.

But Yamaha’s global focus on cost-efficient CP3, CP2, and even smaller platforms raises questions about a next-gen MT-10, even in the US. In ASEAN countries like the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia, relaxed emissions laws make the region a stronghold for high-performance, gas-burning bikes. The MT-10 could thrive here for years, but if European demand for CP4 bikes fades, Yamaha might scale back production globally to prioritize more profitable models, even in lenient markets.

For now, the MT-10 lives on outside Europe, a roaring symbol of hyper-naked glory. And so, if you’re eyeing one, don’t wait—the future’s uncertain, but that Crossplane growl is worth every dollar.
