‘The Running Man’ springs to a week later release date

The universe wants me to wait for my most anticipated movie of 2025. Okay, fine. I shall survive a one week delay but it does mean that Edgar Wright’s The Running Man no longer comes out the day before my birthday. Upsetting.

The Stephen King novel, which was previously adapted into a film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger back in 1987, was originally published under the name “Richard Bachman.” King was testing to see if he was talented and successful on his own merit or if his name helped with his sales. Luckily, the Bachman stories are some of King’s most interesting pieces of work. Like The Running Man.

Originally slated for a November 7 release, the Glen Powell led film has now been pushed a week to a release date of November 14. This does give The Running Man space from Predator: Badlands but also puts it within a week of Wicked: For Good‘s release date. In theory though, having The Running Man competing with Wicked: For Good makes a little more sense from a counter programming stand point.

This movie isn’t surprising and does make sense but as someone who cherishes my birthday movies, I was a little upset to see my most anticipated film of the year shifting to the week after. Guess I’ll still claim it as my birthday movie anyway.

A fun new action film to enjoy

(Paramount Pictures)

I grew up in the era where every fall we’d have some big action film to enjoy. Don’t ask me why but I feel like the James Bond movies are the perfect Thanksgiving films, I remember going and seeing these fast-paced films all bundled up from the cold. So just having both The Running Man and Predator: Badlands both coming out in November rules.

We end up with a lot of different genres through the fall and into winter because a lot of films are gearing up for award season and then you still have your big budget films thrown into the mix. So having The Running Man this November to counter some of the other releases is a good thing.

This adaptation in particular is exciting because it is part of a year of King works that are not the same stories we’ve seen time and time again. So yes, I am being a little selfish in wanting The Running Man sooner rather than later. For now though, I at least understand the move. Doesn’t mean I’m happy that I have to wait longer though. Bring me my Ben Richards!
