'The revolution begins!' - Fans react as Manchester United confirm coaching staff appointments

Manchester United have confirmed that Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren have been installed as Erik ten Hag's assistants at Old Trafford.

Both Van der Gaag and McClaren, who watched the Reds lose 1-0 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon, have worked with Ten Hag in the past, enjoying plenty of success together. Both will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to Old Trafford.

Van der Gaag, who has spent the past year serving as Ten Hag's assistant at Ajax, will join United subject to Governing Body Endorsement from the FA and a UK visa. The 50-year-old, who was a centre-back during his playing days, is a hugely experienced coach, both as a manager and assistant, working at the likes of PSV Eindhoven and NAC Breda, amongst others.

McClaren, meanwhile, is no stranger to United, working at the club alongside Sir Alex Ferguson between 1999 and 2001. He has also worked with Ten Hag in the past, with the latter serving as his assistant at FC Twente during the 2008/09 campaign.

Ten Hag has pushed for Van der Gaag and McClaren to join him at Old Trafford, highlighting that his demands and needs are already being catered for. He has managed to get two components of his backroom team assembled quickly and that will only help the club ahead of pre-season.

With Van der Gaag and McClaren having now been officially announced as members of Ten Hag's backroom team, the supporters have reacted to the news. Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what they have had to say.
