The new Beeston housing estate where 'there are many reasons' to live

The proximity to the local high street, the ’handy’ travel links, the ‘destination’ convenience store nearby that ‘everybody loves’ and friendly people are just some of the many reasons residents enjoy living on the Beeston Quarter Development.

The new Barratt Homes development is situated off Technology Drive in Beeston, just a short walk away from Beeston Railway Station. According to residents the estate has a ‘friendly’ community where everyone knows each other.

Meggie Chan moved onto the estate a year ago after friends recommended her to relocate. She said: “We live right by the high street and by the train station as well, there are many reasons [to live here].

“It's also close to the school, there’s a lot of reasons for people to move here. It’s quiet, it’s friendly, it feels easy to communicate with everyone. It’s nice in general, everyone is really friendly.”

In 2019 Barratt bought the 20-acre site from previous owners Chancerygate and Bridges, with the first apartments - of the 310-home development - made available to reserve a year later. The 16-unit Trent Gateway warehouse development has also been built at the nearby Beeston Business Park, with the units and the new homes having transformed the former Siemens Communications site.

It's not the first time the community spirit has come in for praise, with one of the first couples to have settled at Beeston Quarter previously saying there was a 'really friendly atmosphere'.

Just a stone's throw away from the brand new development is what's described as the ‘destination’ store for residents, the Premier on Trafalgar Road. Lloyd White has owned the convenience shop for the past six years and has welcomed many people from the site, from before the development even existed.

From builders to now residents, the shop owner has seen some plenty of new faces join the community. Lloyd said: “It has had an increase in business, there are quite a few new faces.

“This [the shop] is like a destination, everyone loves it here. People like to come in, I think they love it because we sell everything.”

A resident, who moved to the site almost a year ago but asked not to be named, added: “It’s wonderful here, everyone is just so nice. The properties are lovely and I think it’s a really part of the town.

“This is the first time we’ve lived in Nottingham and it’s such a great place. I think it’s good to live so close to the town centre, you can easily grab a bite to eat or go shopping. We all love it.”

Martyn Parker, Sales Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “There has been a great mix of homebuyers looking to secure a spot at Beeston Quarter due to the variety of homes on offer, from smaller properties and apartments perfect for downsizers and couples, all the way up to six bedroom homes.

“Now that we’re over 80% sold, we’d encourage anyone interested in making a move to act fast and secure their appointment with one of our Sales Advisers.”

Barratt has worked with the community at Beeston Quarter, building the Plessey Centre, a 3,200-square foot community centre at the development which has been handed over to the Beeston Rylands Community Association (BRCA).

The developers have also unveiled Owen Jenkins Close, in memory of Owen Jenkins from Beeston Rylands who lost his life, at the age of just 12, saving the lives of two girls struggling to swim in Beeston Weir back in July 2017.
