Season 5 of Fortnite has officially begun, and with it comes a brand new Battle Pass.
The Battle Pass is Fortnite: Battle Royale’s most ingenious innovation. For 950 V-Bucks, or just about $10 USD, you buy into the paid version of the game for one season. Seasons last 10 weeks and come with weekly challenges, 100+ cosmetic rewards and lots more.
So now that the Season 5 Battle Pass has gone live, let’s take a look at what’s in it.
We’ll start with the biggest change from Season 4, which is the addition of Toys. This season, Toys constitute Basketballs, Beach Balls and Golf Balls. You can use these in-game to actually play these sports—so long as you have the Battle Pass and can unlock them.

Along with the basic Toys, as you level up your Battle Pass you’ll unlock “fancy” versions, like this:

Outfits
A slew of new skins have been added to the Battle Pass as well. The first two are the Huntress and Drift skins, the latter of which can be upgraded by earning XP with cooler outfit pieces.

As you continue to level up your Season 5 Battle Pass you’ll unlock more skins as well, including:
Sledgehammer

Sun Strider

Finally, when you reach Tier 100 you unlock this season’s version of Omega. Ragnarok is one of the coolest skins I’ve ever seen in Fortnite, but just like with Omega, you can’t unlock all his coolest outfit pieces just by buying tiers. You’ll have to earn XP to unlock the most awesome version of Ragnarok, who looks a lot like General Kael from Willow to me:

Along with the Ragnarok and Drift challenges, Season 5 brings back something very similar to the Blockbuster challenges from Season 4. This time around it’s being called the Road Trip Challenge, and by completing all of 7 different weeks’ challenges you can unlock a secret skin, which I’m hoping is a gunslinger of some sort.

Beyond outfits, toys and special challenges, the Battle Pass is full of other goodies. These include special gliders, XP bonuses, V-Bucks gifts and 5 free tiers for your Season 6 Battle Pass if you choose to purchase that in ten weeks.

Overall, a lot of cool stuff in the Season 5 Battle Pass. Most importantly, it gives players something to do other than go for a Victory Royale. Being able to search out treasure chests, complete elimination challenges and just generally work toward a goal helps keep the game fresh and fun—even if the very best skins are mostly still kept in the store rather than Battle Pass.
