The Fig Lobby to hold a weekend of art and culture

The Fig Lobby on 55 Rim Tang Rod Fai Sai Paknam Road in Klong Toey, is a cinematic fusion of a cosy living room at a friend’s vacation house, a secret dance club, an art restaurant and an otherworldly hotel, creating an entirely new living experience for the brave and ever-changing world we inhabit.

Though The Fig Lobby opened their “space odyssey” in  November 2022, the building dates back to the 80s. It has transformed from a residential project into a community-driven underdog. It’s a hospitality space with a mission to foster inclusivity, sustainability, freedom of expression and a amalgamation of communities. The author of the building's dreamscape presence, as well as its hotel rooms, is Austrian architect Markus Roselieb.

The building stands out with its bold colours and walls painted like there’s no tomorrow. The scribblings on the walls, the quirky side tables with wavy legs, and sturdy metal vases are a work of Chiang Mai-based artist Tua Pen Not. The writings on the walls include phrases from “The Picture Of Dorian Gray", the novel by British author Oscar Wilde. The choice is intentional and reinforces the playful yet committed mindset of the creators — Dorian sounding like durian, the most despised fruit in hotels across Thailand due to its pungent odour. The Fig Lobby is an exhibition of an experimental frame of mind.

To introduce itself to Bangkok, the all-encompassing space is holding a weekend of fun and frolic on July 1-2. Step into this transformative space and find yourself surrounded by a healing spa sanctuary, pottery studio and spin club. The rooftop lounge invites you to relax, party and soak in breathtaking sunsets, while the lobby shop and LGBTQ+ tele-wellness suite cater to your diverse needs. With the most dreamscape architecture and interior since “Back To The Future 2”, the place looks like a theme park, and you’re invited to stay over and sense everything.

The fluid weekend will celebrate music, art and the community. Immerse yourself in the lively ambiance of a 90s-2000s-themed party on the night of July 1, featuring an exceptional line-up of talent. The stage will be graced by drag queens Léo Pattra, Lucy Bull and Gawdland, with electrifying sound vibes brought by Bangkok and international DJ crews, including Koish (Unstๆ), Elaheh (More Rice, Unstๆ), and Mo-Funk (Kang Kao). Kick off with funky 90s beats and surrender to the captivating allure of heavier and more intense electronic vibrations, as the night progresses.

While you revel in a one of a kind atmosphere, the Gaudi-meets-Basquiat lobby will come alive with an immersive action painting by Lounys — a contemporary painter and graffiti artist from Paris. Witness the magic unfold as Lounys artistic vision takes shape before your eyes. Sip on free-flow beer (B1,200) or free flow-everything (B1,500). And for more action, add some party dazzle at the WIBWABWUB glitter tattoo station.

If you cannot be bothered getting home, think no further than staying the night at the hotel in the enclave. The Fig Lobby has five floors and 68 rooms, including a floor reserved for guests with furry friends. Ranging in eight different colour schemes and vibrations, all suites are drenched in hues and textures to let the fantasy run. Rooms have quality beds, luscious bathrooms and private balconies with built-in outdoor sofas.

Party guests enjoy a 20% discount on all hotel rooms on the night of July 1, with breakfast. Extend your stay and indulge in the “Funky Boozy Brunch” — a Sunday daytime party extravaganza with an open bar, oyster platters, games, DJs, percussionists and occasional drag bingo.

And, if you find that a bit of bubbly is igniting a creative spark, don't miss David's Head Paint class in collaboration with Linked Art after the brunch. All materials will be provided and the workshop comes with a lively artist talk. Still up for more fun and pleasure? Stay for a workshop and win a staycation with breakfast and a blissful massage.
