The exciting Glasgow festival bringing a day of top craft beers to the east end

An exciting beer event is set to bring some of the country's top breweries to Glasgow's east end in June.

Foxfest, the east end's own beer festival, is returning for its fourth year and bringing six of the best Scottish breweries for people to come along and try their beer.

Founder of Foxfest Andy Shea is excited for this year's event after starting the festival back in 2018, and can't wait for people to see what they have in store on Saturday, June 17.

"I enjoy trying new beers, the weirder and wonderful the better and liked to attend beer festivals around Glasgow and further afield," explained Andy. "I quickly realised that the East End of Glasgow wasn’t served by its own festival. So I thought I’d try to fill that void.

"The success of the year one festival just spurred me on to do it again and we are still the only Beer Festival in the East End of Glasgow."

He stated that beer fans can expect a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with the event designed to be small and cosy, meaning guests can get up close and personal with the brewery teams.

Andy added: "The festival is small, 200 attendees and we keep the number of breweries relatively small too. That means you can talk to the brewers, find out how their amazing beers were made, and support local breweries, our six are all local."

The beer festival takes place at Foxley Bowling Club on Carmyle Avenue, with beer fan and club member Andy explaining it's the perfect place to hold such an event.

He said: "As a member of the bowling club I was looking for a decent-sized venue to start with and the bowling club suited perfectly. So much so that ‘The East End Beer Festival’ was soon renamed ‘FoxFest’.

"There is plenty of outdoor space for attendees to chill out and enjoy their beers. Over the years plenty of attendees have also tried a game of bowls in the sunshine with equipment supplied by the Bowling Club."

This year they will have six breweries attending the festival with Andy giving us a rundown on what to expect:

WEST – "A returning brewery, based in Bridgeton they are a Glasgow institution, brewing proper German beer in the heart of Glasgow."

Dookit – "A newish Glasgow brewery. Born in the Southside, their current brewery is based in the East End, less than a mile from the FoxFest venue."

Up Front – "Another East End brewery, they brew amazing beers that are taste sensations."

Hidden Lane Brewery – "Another returning brewery, this time, based in Finnieston, they brew excellent organic beers and really bring fruit to the fore of their beers."

Spectra – "Another new brewery. Based in the Southside of Glasgow they are very much on a mission for taste-filled beers without heavy alcohol content."

Two Towns Down – "Another brewery returning to FoxFest. The only non-Glasgow brewery. These interlopers come all the way from Paisley and make some amazing beers."

Priced at £7 per person (plus booking fee) tickets are available now from the website.

Andy added: "Numbers are limited so we’d strongly recommend picking up in advance as there is unlikely to be a pay-at-the-gate option."
