Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ) secured a second consecutive title at the Giro d'Italia Women on Sunday, marking contender Marlen Reusser (Movistar) through the finish of stage 8 in Imola. Reusser gained just four seconds with a third-place finish on the stage, and could not overtake Borghini.
The Italian Champion defended her GC victory from last year, finishing 18 seconds ahead of Reusser and 1:11 in front of third-placed Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance-Soudal).
The top 10 remained the same, with slight reshuffling, after 134km of racing Sunday into the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, as Liane Lippert (Movistar) beat Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx-Protime) in a two-up sprint for the stage victory.
With second place on the stage, four-time Giro d'Italia winner Van der Breggen gained a few seconds in the overall, but held on to sixth overall, now 3:32 away from the GC lead.
Ahead of Van der Breggen, Pauliena Rooijakkers (Fenix-Deceuninck) held on to fourth place overall, 2:55 back, and Antonia Niedermaier (Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto) was fifth at 3:07.
With a strong third-placed finish on the queen stage, Isabella Holmgren (Lidl-Trek) was seventh, 3:54 back.
Barbara Malcotti (Human Powered Health) moved up one spot to eighth, 4:44 back, as Urška Žigart (AG Insurance-Soudal Team) dropped to ninth, another 12 seconds behind Malcotti.
Norwegian Katrine Aalerud (Uno-X Mobility) held on to the final spot in the top 10, 5:19 back.
Gigante added the mountain classification title to her podium finish and AG Insurance-Soudal also won the team classification. Antonia Niedermaier (Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto) won the youth classification and Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) won the points classification.
