The Base 2027 Mercedes C-Class EV Has Three Screens, But One Is Hiding A Secret

  • The all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV is here, and its interior is quite impressive.
  • Even the base trim comes with three screens on the dash.
  • Pay more, and you get a full-width 39.1-inch pillar-to-pillar touchscreen.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV wants to one-up the BMW i3 by offering tons of screen real estate inside.

Both cars sit on bespoke 800-volt architectures, promising ultra-fast charging speeds and over 300 miles of range, but you can’t really brag about kilowatts to your business partners. Besides stuffing the new C-Class EV with all the latest and greatest technology under the skin, Mercedes-Benz chose to offer plenty of screens inside the car.

Even the entry-level electric sedan offers no fewer than three screens on the dash, but to keep costs down, the German company made a peculiar decision. On the base C-Class EV, the front passenger screen doesn’t really do anything, as our sister site Motor1 discovered.

There’s a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the steering wheel and a 14-inch central infotainment touchscreen, while the 14-inch front passenger display is dubbed a “digitally animated trim panel.” In other words, the latter just acts as a digital photo frame, displaying an image selected on the main infotainment screen.

On the smaller CLA EV, the base trim gets a piece of shiny plastic instead of a touchscreen, which might be better or worse, depending on who you’re asking. That said, the GLC electric crossover has the same screen setup as the new C-Class.

All this being said, the new electric sedan’s passenger display can be made a little more useful, but customers will have to pay extra for the mid-spec Superscreen system that adds a touchscreen on the right side of the dash. Go for the full-blown Hyperscreen, and you get the mesmerizingly large 39.1-inch display that spans the entire width of the dash.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class electric sedan rides on the same platform as the GLC EV, and it’s clear that the German automaker is going all-in on screens for the foreseeable future—for better or worse.
