Temporary jobs recruiting in the North East this summer including Newcastle United and National Trust

Newcastle United Football Club and The National Trust are among those recruiting people on a temporary basis this summer.

Temporary jobs can be great for students and school leavers who want to earn some extra cash between their education commitments, as well as gaining valuable work experience. And there's a number of temporary jobs currently recruiting in the North East.

Weather you're looking for bar and restaurant work, retail roles or housekeeping, ChronicleLive has rounded up some temporary job vacancies which could work for you.

Sales Associates

Stationary shop Typo is looking for sales assistants on a temporary four hour contract this summer. Roles are available at both the Eldon Square and Metrocentre stores.

As a Typo sales associate you will be dedicated to delivering on what the customer wants and "go above and beyond to create amazing moments". Successful candidates should also be available, reliable and "juggle priorities like a boss".

Sales Assistant

Sports Direct in Peterlee is looking for a temporary sales assistant. The job advertisement states that this role has no guaranteed hours of work and can therefore vary from week to week. As a result, there may be weeks when no hours of work are offered.

Bar and Waiting Staff

Hospitality and events recruitment agency, Xenia Recruitment, is looking to hire bar and waiting staff on a temporary basis over the summer months. The agency says it offers flexibility for workers by allowing them to pick and choose their shifts via an app.

And it is particularly looking for people in Newcastle who are available during May to September to help cover a busy calendar of fun events across the city. The agency pays over living wage to everyone regardless of age, with the hourly rate at £10.50p/h, pay increases also apply at certain venues.

There's also the opportunity to switch which city you work in at the touch of a button as Xenia Recruitment also operates in Leeds and London.

Food and Beverage Team Member

The National Trust is looking to hire a summer temp Food and Beverage assistant to be based at Seaton Delaval Hall, in Seaton Sluice. This grand building is the historic home of the Delaval family who were all about theatricality, drama and mischief. They stood apart as the most notorious of all Georgian partygoers and pranksters.

And now there is an opportunity to work at the site, where the successful candidate will assist customers in the food and beverage outlet. The role also includes ensuring all signage is displayed correctly and the food served, looks delicious. The successful applicant may also be required to assist the kitchen team with food prep, but training will be given.

This is a fixed term position until September 30, 2023, with the possibility of extension or permanent position. The pay will be £10.50p/h, regardless of age and the deadline to apply is June 25.

Housekeeping

Morgan Douglas Lettings in Durham is currently looking to fill a housekeeping role over the summer months. This is to help the business through a busy season.

The role will involve housekeeping and laundry on Air B&B properties. The successful candidate will be expected to work 15-25 hours a week for the next three months, with potential for more work at busy times when required.

Match Day Stewards

Newcastle United Football Club is looking for match day stewards and turnstile operators to join them for the 2023/ 2024 season. Successful candidates will have excellent customer service skills and will provide supporters with a safe and enjoyable matchday experience.

Match day stewards must be 18 or over and will require a standard DBS check in line with premier league regulations and have a level 2 crowd and spectator safety qualification. If you do not have the qualification, training will be provided during the summer.

Anyone wishing to apply for the role should attend a recruitment open day on Saturday June 24, 10am – 4pm in the Park Grill Leazes Stand at St James' Park.
