Team Europe Wins 2025 Ryder Cup On Exhilarating Final Day At Bethpage Black

Team Europe won the 2025 Ryder Cup 15-13 to seal a second successive victory over Team USA following an intensely dramatic Sunday of singles action at Bethpage Black.

The visitors were seemingly home and dry as a result of dominant performances over the course of the first two days, with the score at 11.5 - 4.5 on Saturday evening.

Heading into the 12 singles matches, Luke Donald's men only required 2.5 points to take the trophy back across the Atlantic.

Then, before a ball had even been struck, Europe's task was made marginally easier via unfortunate circumstances as Viktor Hovland was forced to withdraw from his match due to a neck injury. The Norwegian's clash with Harris English resulted in a tie and the score moved on to 12-5.

Although most experts and fans gave the USA little to no chance of overturning the deficit, based on what they had witnessed across Friday and Saturday, there were at least 12 men who blindly believed it was possible.

And Bradley's side made the best possible start as Cameron Young and Justin Thomas both won their respective matches over Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood via clutch putts on the 18th green.

Young and Thomas' matches had followed similar patterns to most of the others on Sunday - an even start made way for American dominance as the day wore on. Even matches where Europe were initially comfortable began to slide away thanks to the indomitable US spirit.

With the tide fully turned in America's direction and a sea of red appearing on the board later in the day, a prime example of the momentum switch saw Matt Fitzpatrick's 5up position go up in smoke down the back nine as Bryson DeChambeau started to catch fire.

Once the Scientist sealed a gritty half point at the last, European faces wore extremely concerned expressions.

Scottie Scheffler finally won a point at the fifth time of asking in a tense match with Rory McIlroy to heap more pressure on the visiting side, only for Ludvig Aberg to clinch Europe's only outright win of the day and drag the finishing line just a little bit closer.

Yet, wins for Xander Schauffele and JJ Spaun ensured the US continued to gain on Europe and brought matches which no one had expected to matter into the frame.

But, perhaps fittingly - given the next Ryder Cup is to be played at Adare Manor in Ireland - Shane Lowry secured the vital half-point Europe required and locked the projected score at 14-14 in a worst-case scenario.

And although Ben Griffin saw off Rasmus Hojgaard 1up late on, the true belief from America appeared to have disappeared once Lowry's putt dropped. That allowed Tyrrell Hatton to be the hero and seal the half-point Europe needed to win the Ryder Cup outright in the penultimate match.

Robert MacIntyre's 18th-hole success aided the Scot in taking yet another crucial half-point for the Europeans, and that was truly the cherry on top of the cake for Team Europe as they began to celebrate a 15-13 victory.

Speaking immediately after the final putt dropped, Donald said: "It's been the most stressful 12 hours in my life. Shout-out to the Americans, Keegan, his captaincy. I knew it would be tough. I didn't think they would be this tough on Sunday, they fought so hard, and all the respect to them.

"But this means a lot obviously to me and the team. We came here knowing that the task was very difficult. I couldn't be more proud of these guys and what they have done through, how they have come together, how they are playing for history, how they are playing for the people that came before them, and now there will be talk for generations to come as someone going down in history. Couldn't be more proud."

Hello and welcome to the final day of the 2025 Ryder Cup!

Follow along all day for updates and live scores.

VIKTOR HOVLAND IS OUT

The Norwegian will not play today due to injury.

Here's the official line:

Viktor Hovland from Team Europe is unable to play in the Sunday Singles Matches due to injury. The substitution Rule 3.d) of the Ryder Cup Captains’ Agreement requires each Team Captain to provide the name of one player, in the sealed envelope, who will not play in the case of an injury to a member of the other team.

The USA Team player is Harris English and under the Ryder Cup Captains’ Agreement the Match between Viktor Hovland and Harris English is treated as tied (1⁄2 point to each team).

The overall Match score now stands as: USA 5 Europe 12

“3.d) When the Captain’s lodge their team selection for singles play, they must provide a sealed envelope containing the name of one player who is regarded as having been paired with a player who, through illness, injury or other emergency reason, has to withdraw from the other side. Such pairing is regarded as a tied match. If this requires the re-pairing of a match, this will be done down the order of the play.”

OFFICIAL RYDER CUP STATEMENT ON VIKTOR HOVLAND

Viktor Hovland of Team Europe will not participate in the Sunday Singles at the 2025 Ryder Cup due to the recurrence of a neck injury.

The Norwegian has been managing the issue since withdrawing from the Travelers Championship in June.

He received treatment during the Saturday morning Foursomes and was then unable to play in the Saturday afternoon Fourballs, with Tyrrell Hatton replacing him in the final match alongside Matt Fitzpatrick.

He had an MRI scan on Saturday night at a local hospital in New York.

He then woke up on Sunday morning unable to move his neck.

He tried to warm up at Bethpage but due to limited movement, he had to inform Captain Luke Donald that he will be unable to play in his Singles match against Harris English at 2.03pm.

Hovland said: “There is nothing more I would like to do than be out there representing Team Europe and trying to help them win the Ryder Cup today. Not being able to do so is pretty heartbreaking. I will be backing my team as hard as I can and rooting them on.

”Dr Andrew Murray, Ryder Cup Europe’s Chief Medical Officer, said: “Viktor’s pain started during the morning foursomes, where he received treatment and medication from the physio and medical team on course during the match. Following this he attempted to warm up for Saturday fourballs, but experienced increasing pain while swinging a golf club, and a lack of range of movement in his neck and withdrew, being replaced by Tyrrell Hatton.“

An MRI was arranged following liaison between Team Europe and PGA of America on-site medical team, which confirmed a flare up of a previous injury - a disc bulge in his neck by a medical imaging specialist.

This morning, Viktor received ongoing treatment but unfortunately he is not able to rotate or flex his neck to one side making playing the singles impossible.”

THE MAN LEADING EUROPE OUT

Justin Rose is 2/2 so far this week and was statistically Europe's best player in the Saturday afternoon four-ball. What a player.

SCHEFFLER VS MCILROY IN GAME 4

The World No.1 is, incredibly, 0-4 this week.

Surely he doesn't go 0-5? Rory McIlroy might have something to say about that, though.

Stat: Today’s match between Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will be the first ever Ryder Cup singles match between #1 and #2 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

HISTORY AWAITS TOMMY FLEETWOOD

As the only man currently 4-0, Tommy Fleetwood can create Ryder Cup history today if he defeats Justin Thomas in the 2nd match.

He would becomes the second player to win five matches at one Ryder Cup on away soil and the first ever European to do so.

Tony Lema went 5-1-0 for the U.S. team in 1965 at Royal Birkdale.

COMEBACK STATS

Since 1979 in the 28-point era, no team has ever come back from a margin as big as the US are facing today.

Here are the largest final day comebacks:

  • 1999 USA, trailed 10-6, won 14.5 to 13.5
  • 2012 Europe trailed 10-6, won 14.5 to 13.5
  • 1995 Europe trailed 9-7, won 14.5 to 13.5
  • 1993 USA trailed 8.5 to 7.5, won 15-13

JUST THE 11 SINGLES THEN

12-5 it is. Viktor Hovland has withdrawn due to injury, meaning his match against Harris English has been deemed a tie. English can put his feet up. The first match is OFF. Go time.

LOVING THE 1ST

Rose finds the fairway, not that it matters. Easy first hole. I'd fancy my chances of making a birdie here. May as well head to the second - hole halved in three. Maybe not. Both Rose and Young are nicely placed, though.

Young's task is pretty simple: he really needs to beat Rose and at least give the guys in the following matches something to worry about. It's obviously a big ask, but strange things happen in sport.

HOLE 1, SHOTS 2

Rose long, Young short. Both makable putts. Loud.

FROM DOWN TOWN!

Young makes it, of course, and Thomas and Fleetwood are announced on the tee. Boos for Tommy. Standard. Such an awful person (heavy dose of sarcasm).

Rose misses high and Team USA get the perfect start. Nice one... more of that, let's see a proper contest today, please.

THOMAS AND TOMMY SIDE BY SIDE

Most club golfers would love this opening tee shot. I'd prefer to see something like the 18th at Augusta, but with water everywhere and a huge carry and out of bounds in play. Maybe that would be too much for a Ryder Cup.

THAT YOUNG SWING

There's more than an element of Matsuyama about it with the deliberate pause at the top of the backswing. Works well enough. What a player he's been this week. Regardless of what happens today, Cam Young has shown his team format qualities this week.

ADVANTAGE EUROPE

A poor opener from Thomas, short with his pitch. Up ahead at the 2nd, Young in closer than Rose - a lot closer. A decent opportunity coming up to go 2up.

SO CLOSE

Thomas an inch or so away from a birdie at the 1st. Fleetwood has an opportunity to strike the first blow in the second match. Misses low - good effort. It's a day for split screens, as the third match gets announced on the 1st tee.

Fitzpatrick is away first - left rough. Looking forward to seeing what Bryson does - reckon he might have a pop, just have that feeling. 396 yards today. Just short, didn't quite get hold of it! Huge roars. He smoked that on the most aggressive line we've seen so far this week. Gets a little hug from captain Keegan. Imagine the roar if pitches in from just off the front of the green...

BOXES IT

Here's Young's birdie putt at the 1st. The perfect start.

DONALD ON MINDSET

"Yeah, zero complacency. We know how strong these guys are. They are very dangerous in singles. We’ve got to go take care of our own matches and try and win the session."

DONALD ON HOVLAND'S INJURY

"Yeah, he started stiffening up yesterday morning. Tried to go out in the afternoon but got worse and worse. Got an MRI last night. Really, really stiff this morning. Tried to go through his warm up and just couldn’t play. So yeah, he’s devastated. He’s gutted. He wants to go out there and represent Team Europe. Yeah, it’s very, very unfortunate."

MATT 1UP

Bryson misses. Fitz does not. Despite the huuuge drive from DeChambeau, he pulls his birdie effort from about 8ft. Fitzpatrick has no such trouble from roughly the same distance, and he takes an early lead.

ROSE SQUARES UP

Not another fight, don't worry. He's level in the match, winning the 2nd with a par. Young can't get up-and-down after his pulled tee shot, but the Englishman can.

FITZPATRICK OPENS WITH A 3

Here's that birdie from Fitzpatrick at the 1st. His tee shot wasn't great, but he sent his second way up high and stopped it by the flag. Fleetwood strikes against Thomas, too.

RORY V SCHEFFLER

Oh yeah, this match has teed off too. The World No.1 has been strangely out of sorts this week and will be desperate to avoid losing all five matches. Rory getting a lot of stick already, taking his time with his pitch at the 1st, backing off to loud boos.

It's a beauty, as was Scheffler's. Honestly, I don't know how they focus in this noise - any of the players. I struggle to concentrate chipping over a bush in my back garden, which comes with its own pressure.

MORE FROM DONALD

"Yeah, we thought the US would go with their strongest players out front, as they have. We throughout all of our strongest, too, and we have reserves in the back in case we need it."

PARS IN MATCH 4

I had that down as hole halved in three, but both Rory and Scottie par the 1st with tentative birdie efforts - which is understandable. Both players will be desperate to win this one. Desperate. Good friends, loads of respect, but this is a big one. After Rory's Grand Slam accomplishment in April, it's been Scottie's year again.

ROUGH FOR SCHEFFLER

Chance for Rory on 2. Scheffler is through the back after finding the rough off the tee - proper rough, too.

Bryson has blasted a putt to win the hole 5ft by - not far off the distance he had for the win. He absolutely smashed that - some adrenaline for sure. He misses the return, too. They can ill afford those, and they can ill afford to duff chips, as Scheffler has just done.

Not good signs, these, for Bradley.

ON THE TEE... JON RAHM

Rahm with a 6-iron off the 1st. I jest. Driver, of course, and a standard drive that finishes in short pitch range. Schauffele's drive might have sat down in the rough a little. Advantage Rahm.

Up on the 1st green, Cantlay secures a half with Ludvig Aberg. McIlroy wins the 2nd after Scheffler's troubles, making the birdie. Once again, it's been a blistering start from Europe. An hour or so of this and heads could drop? Just a lazy saying I've taken there from soccer.

EUROPE UP IN TOP 4 MATCHES

That would more than be enough. Rahm won't be happy with that on the 1st, though, a three-putt from about 8 feet.

UP IN 5

Make that up in the first five. Ludvig Aberg walks in a putt on the 2nd against Cantlay. Luke Donald's men have got off to the start that the US needed. Early days but a spark is needed from somewhere to get some red going.

YOUNG UP FOR THE FIGHT

A tidy birdie from Cam Young on the 6th. Rose is closer but he pulls that one badly. All square in that match now. A rare mistake from Justin.

FIRST BLOOD STRAKA

A birdie puts the Austrian up against JJ Spaun. McIlroy misses from 10ft up at the par 5, and his match with the World No.1 goes back to all square.

Shane Lowry and Russell Henley are off. Interestingly, the cheers for both players are of the same volume. Have fans been reminded of the code of conduct, perhaps?

HOLE OUT

Take a bow, Justin Thomas. Nothing Tommy Fleetwood can do about that one. Back to 1up after that hole out on 6. No great firing up of the crowd from Thomas, maybe because he's still behind and maybe because there have been words after yesterday's drama.

FITZPATRICK DOING A JOB ON BRYSON

Matt Fitzpatrick is off to a rapid start. Some of what we've seen has been top class, but Bryson has offered one or two gifts. Europe 3up after 5.

XANDER 2UP ON RAHM

Xander Schauffele is quietly going about his business, moves 2up against the Spaniard - which is the only red on the board at the moment. That could be about to change in the Rose/Young match.

FITZPATRICK IN A HURRY

4up after 6 on Bryson, with a jumpy little skip/walk into the hole. Bryson looks ready to explode. The American has a case of the pulls going on with the putter by the looks of it.

IT'S BUSY OUT THERE

Holes being made all over the place, Straka the latest to drop one from range, moves two up after three on Spaun with a lengthy one. USA are now up in three, Europe up in five.

HERE'S HOW TO WIN A HOLE

Here's that hole out from Justin Thomas. A lot has happened since then, as it tends to when all the matches are out - which they nearly are.

Griffin has put some red on the board for the US, he moves 1up after the 1st on Hojgaard. The only match that isn't one-sided is the Bryson match. If you're a US fan, that's the positive - still a tough ask but they have to believe they can turn this around. The problem at the moment is that, as a team, there is no pressure on Europe.

FALDO HAVING A POP

Not the first time the six-time Major winner has had his say on Bryson. The American is struggling against Fitzpatrick, who is just plodding along. Faldo questioning Bryson's strategy - length versus consistency. "Consistency wins every time," says Faldo.

LEFT AGAIN

Bryson DeChambeau is in real bother against Matt Fitzpatrick. He pulls his par putt well wide from about 12 feet and it's a gift for the Englishman who goes 5up through seven.

GRIFFIN MOVES 2-UP

USA's Griffin birdies the third and moves 2-up on Hojgaard, with the US rookie producing a fine performance.

McIlroy has parred the seventh and remains tied with Scheffler, with Burns and MacIntyre parring the first hole to also remain tied

BRYSON WINS THE EIGHTH

Fitzpatrick makes a mess of the par 3 eighth and, with DeChambeau in close, he knocks in the par putt to move to 4-down.

Up ahead, Schauffele misses a short putt for par, handing the victory to Rahm, who is now 1-down through five holes.

YOUNG NOW 2-UP ON ROSE

Rose makes a mess of the 10th hole and, with a bogey secured, Young has two putts for the victory. Just off the edge of the green, he rolls it up to tap-in range, meaning he is 2-up after 10 holes.

Elsewhere, Straka is now just 1-up on Spaun after missing a putt for a tie, while Rahm is fighting back as he sticks it close against Schauffele.

BIRDIE FOR RAHMBO

Rahm birdies the sixth and is now tied with Schauffele, with the European claiming back-to-back gains.

BRYSON WINS ANOTHER

He's not giving up, as DeChambeau birdies the ninth to move to 3-down. That's back-to-back birdies for the American.

Behind him, Lowry has won the fifth hole and leads Henley 1-up.

JT WINS THE 10TH

Thomas leaves himself an easy putt up the hill for the win, with the two-time Major winner rolling in a four-footer to secure the hole and move to 1-down with Fleetwood.

Speaking of the USA, Cantlay and Morikawa win their respective holes to move back to tied in their matches, as they sit all-square against Aberg and Hatton.

HALVED IN PARS

Fitzpatrick puts pressure on DeChambeau at the 10th, with an excellent par putt meaning the American needs to hole for the tie. Thankfully, he does that, with DeChambeau remaining 3-down.

JT ON FIRE

Fleetwood just misses a lengthy birdie putt, which leaves Thomas with a great look at a the win, with the American rolling in a seven-footer to bring his match back to a tie.

Behind him, Spaun has two putts for the victory at the seventh, with the US Open champion rolling it close to move back into a tie with Straka.

BIG MISS FROM ROSE

Young makes par and, from four-foot, Rose has a chance to tie the hole. However, his putt hits the right-side and slides out, meaning Rose is three-down through 12 holes.

SCHEFFLER MOVES 1-UP

That was a scrappy hole from both men, as Scheffler makes a bogey and McIlroy makes a double. The World No.1 is 1-up on McIlroy through 10 holes

JT LEVELS UP THE MATCH

THOMAS LEADS FLEETWOOD

Serious momentum change in this match, with Thomas claiming three holes on the spin to lead for the first time.

He is now 1-up on Fleetwood.

HOJGAARD BACK TO A TIE

It's a rookie battle in the ninth match, with Griffin and Hojgaard battling it out.

USA's Griffin was leading, but is now back to a tie with Hojgaard, who has won the fourth and seventh via a couple of birdies.

EUROPE BRING IT BACK

McIlroy and Scheffler are putting on a great match and, at the 11th, the European side holes a birdie putt to bring the match back to a tie!

Away from the star-studded match, Aberg wins the 10th hole to move 1-up against Cantlay, with Europe up in four matches.

WHAT A RESPONSE FROM FITZY

Wow... DeChambeau holes an excellent birdie putt at the 12th, but Fitzpatrick fires back with a 15-footer of his own to keep a 3-up lead!

UNREAL FROM ROSE

That is unreal from Rose! I'm unsure what has happened, but Keegan Bradley was involved with Rose taking a drop... Not that it matters, as the European makes one of the best up-and-downs I've ever seen.

Short-sided and behind a tree, Rose puts it to 10-foot and holes the putt for birdie, putting him to 2-down against Young, who missed a putt for birdie himself.

Elsewhere, Henley is now tied with Lowry after nine holes, while MacIntyre is 1-up on Burns through six holes.

EUROPE MAKING A MOVE

Huge win for Fleetwood, who birdies the 13th to move back into a tie with Thomas!

Up ahead, Rose birdies the 14th and Young misses to move to 1-down, with European claiming the last two holes to bring it back in this match.

ROSEY FIRING BACK

UP-AND-DOWN OF THE WEEK

HUGE SAVE FROM FITZY

This is so good from Fitzpatrick, who matches DeChambeau's birdie to remain 3-up after 13. Given the scores in the other matches, this game could be huge in the outcome of the Ryder Cup...

SAVES ALL ROUND

Griffin makes a great birdie at the 10th, but Hojgaard follows him in with a 10-footer to save the hole and remain 1-down in the battle of the rookies.

XANDER DOMINATING RAHM

Schauffele has been one of the best players on the US side this week and, at the 12th, he finds a birdie to move 3-up on Rahm, who seems to be struggling.

BIRDIES GALORE

DeChambeau makes a birdie to move back to 2-down against Fitzpatrick, while Aberg is now 2-up against Cantlay in the fifth match.

Scheffler and McIlroy remain tied in the fourth game, with Thomas and Fleetwood tied in the second match.

BRILLIANT BRYSON

SCHEFFLER 1-UP

McIlroy misses a mid-range attempt for par and he is now 1-down to Scheffler, who is searching for a first point of this year's Ryder Cup

BRYSON GAINS ANOTHER ONE

DeChambeau is on a charge right now... He was 5-down after seven, but has won four holes in the last eight to move within one of Fitzpatrick.

BRYSON IS FEELING IT

FIRST MATCH GOES DOWN THE LAST

Rose has mounted an excellent comeback and, at the 17th, his putt for birdie just misses, with Young's attempt also missing.

We head down the 18th, with the first match tied. This could be huge in the outcome of the overall score.

EXCELLENT RORY

EXCELLENT FROM THE ROOKIES

That was gutsy! Griffin holes a 50-footer for birdie at the 12th but, in response, Hojgaard drains a 15-footer to secure the tie!

YOUNG WINS IT FOR THE USA

Unbelievable! Cameron Young birdies the 18th hole to win the first match of the singles session against Justin Rose!

He's been the stand-out player on the US side and, with victory, it brings the score to 6-12. The Americans are fighting back here!

CLUTCH FROM YOUNG

DRAMA OVER THE LAST FEW HOLES

At the 18th, Fleetwood and Thomas stick their approach shots within 15-feet, with Thomas slightly closer than his opponent.

Back at the 17th, DeChambeau makes par, while Fitzpatrick lips out for the tie and it means the match is now all square going down the last. What a turnaround for the Americans, with DeChambeau dead and buried going into the back nine...

THOMAS WINS 1-UP AGAINST FLEETWOOD

The American wave continues! What a putt from Thomas, who birdies the final hole to defeat Tommy Fleetwood and put another point on the board for the American Team!

REMARKABLE FROM THOMAS

SCHEFFLER SAVES HIMSELF

After McIlroy leaves his birdie effort short from 20 feet away, Scheffler two-putts from miles away to guarantee the US another half-point and take it down 18. Will we see another American victory on the last?

GAME OF INCHES

In the only match with blue on the board, Aberg fires his tee shot at the par-3 17th pin-high and will have the same putt that so many before him have had (and often missed). In response, Patrick Cantlay fires right over the top of the flag, but it just sticks in the collar and he will have a tricky second shot when a tap-in was calling if that had spun back even a little.

ABERG WINS 2&1

Aberg's two-putt proves to be enough for Europe as Cantlay can't quite find the target from the rough at 17. That could be a huge point for Luke Donald's men. Who would have thought that a few hours ago?

DECHAMBEAU AND FITZPATRICK TIE

Both men miss left from a long way out at the 18th, but Fitzpatrick sees his given while DeChambeau has a nasty three-footer to deal with.

The big man stands tall, though, and rolls it home before turning away and punching the air and roaring with delight. It's a half point that no one saw coming when he was five down after seven holes.

TALL ASK

McIlroy finds the sand off the tee at 18 and is only able to advance his ball to the very front edge thereafter. On the contrary, Scheffler does what Scheffler does and hits the centre of the fairway before landing it in the back portion of the green.

SCHEFFLER WINS 1UP

Despite an excellent thump up the green from McIlroy which comes to rest at kick-in range, Scheffler has two putts for the match. He comfortably nudges his ball to a foot and the caps come off. Scheffler finally wins a point for the US, and at the perfect time!

TOUGH FOR LOWRY

Lowry sends an absolute dart into the 16th green and looks for all money like he is going to square the game up. But Russell Henley drains a putt from 15 feet to deny him as Lowry tidies up for a half. That will be a real gut punch for the Irishman.

SPAUN WINS 2&1

A sensational tee shot from Spaun at the par-3 17th ultimately sets up the two-putt he needed to see off Straka 2&1. The US Open champion has been fantastic today and that's a point he fully deserves.

ICED

Lowry over-fades his tee shot at the 17th and sees his ball roll down to the bottom of the two-tier putting surface. The US crowd go wild as they know that sets up a great chance for Henley to swoop in.

The World No.3 comes up clutch by firing a wonderful shot to five feet past the flag. If he holes that, the USA move one step closer to one of the all-time great sporting comebacks.

GRIFFIN TAKES THE LEAD

And here comes one of the points they need. Rasmus Hojgaard bogeys the brutal 15th hole and concedes to Griffin, who was only a few feet away for par thanks to a wonderful lag putt from the bottom section.

PUTT TO WIN THE MATCH

Lowry is a few feet short with his long-range try at the 17th. Henley has a putt to win the match from eight feet.

NO GOOD

Henley can't make his putt drop and Lowry is still alive. For now. The Irishman has to make his own par putt for the match to continue.

WE GO ON

Lowry does it! He has one last chance to snatch a half and deny the USA the outright win down 18.

ADVANTAGE LOWRY

Now then. Is that an opening for Lowry at 18? The Irishman thumps his drive down the centre while Henley pulls his tee shot into a steep face of one of the left fairway bunkers. That doesn't look easy at all.

MISSED OPPORTUNITY

Morikawa and Hatton both find the 15th green in two, but it's Hatton who has the more realistic chance of making birdie. The Englishman can't do it, though, dribbling his downhill effort just to the right. The penultimate match continues to the 16th all square.

OUT OF THIS WORLD

From 128 yards with an uphill lie and in the sand, Henley didn't have much going for him. But this situation has turned the US golfers into all-world players and Henley sticks it to 12 feet, pin-high. 'Follow that, Lowry' says Henley.

And he does! Lowry is maybe six feet away on the same line as Henley. That's incredible.

PUTT TO CLOSE IT OUT

Henley has a left-to-right putt in front of him. Under normal circumstances, it wouldn't be too bad, but with a Ryder Cup dream on the line, this will test everything he has between the ears.

A putt to win the match for Russell Henley and make it a two-point Ryder Cup.

SHORT

He's left it short! That can only be down to nerves. It was on line and heading home, but he left it short. Lowry now has a chance to retain the Ryder Cup.

EUROPE RETAIN THE RYDER CUP

Lowry sends his putt home and Europe have retained the Ryder Cup via a half-point on the 18th hole. How have they done that? How has he done that? How are we in this position?!

What a wild Ryder Cup this has been and still is!

HALF A CHANCE FOR RASMUS

After the 18th was cleared, Griffin and Hojgaard take their final walk and hit the green in two - only they're both some 60 feet away.

Griffin will go first with Hojgaard needing a miracle still...

SUPREME TOUCH

Griffin knocks his ball up to kick-in range, leaving Hojgaard with a monster putt to win the Ryder Cup outright. He's taking a long look at this - as well he should, the young Dane.

This cannot be short.

GRIFFIN WINS 1UP

Hojgaard gave it a fantastic run, and it was only a couple of inches right of the hole, but the ball didn't drop and Griffin holds on to make the score 14-12 with two holes to play.

Over to you, Tyrrell Hatton.

FLOWER OF SCOTLAND

Scotland's national anthem rings around the tee box at the 17th, where MacIntyre stands knowing he is firmly in the last-chance saloon.

Burns goes first but leaves it in the bottom-left corner of the putting surface and is looking firmly at a two-putt.

Moments later, MacIntyre stands still after drawing a lovely looking tee shot towards the flag. It comes up maybe 15-20 feet short, but it's a good chance to square the game up again.

HATTON WITH A PUTT TO WIN THE RYDER CUP

Morikawa comes up woefully short with his approach into 18 and still has meat on the bone for par. Meanwhile, Hatton sticks it to 20 feet from the rough and has a chance to win the Ryder Cup outright.

The first one doesn't go in, but the second is conceded and Europe seal the half-point they needed to crawl over the line.

EUROPE WINS THE 2025 RYDER CUP

As I said, Hatton's second putt was conceded, but Morikawa wanted to tidy up to confirm his half. The putt drops and the celebrations can finally begin.

I can't imagine there will be a whole lot of jubilation right now, more so relief. But Luke Donald's men have completed the job, with all of the damage done over the course of the first two days. They allowed themselves so much room for error via near-perfect play on Friday and Saturday, while the US left it far too late to make their run.

But what a Ryder Cup this has been. It never fails to deliver, does it?

FINAL MATCH IN THE BALANCE

Burns leads 1up in the final match of the day, but it's MacIntyre who holds the advantage by sticking his approach to 25 feet. Burns whiffed his drive wide right and pays the price by putting from the fringe at the front.

Burns blasts his effort a good eight feet past and gives MacIntyre the opportunity to add the cherry on top of the cake.

MACINTYRE MISSES

MacIntyre pushed his putt up the hill but, as so many have done before him, he misses to the left. Over to Burns to see how this one ends.

EUROPE WIN 2025 RYDER CUP 15-13

Burns pushes his par putt wide right and MacIntyre delivers the final half-point to Europe's tally. The 2025 Ryder Cup SOMEHOW ends 15-13 to Team Europe.

Huge respect to Team USA for the fight they showed and the manner in which the matches were played. That was proper sport.

But all of the congratulations must go to Team Europe for winning the Ryder Cup - the first away team to do so since they managed it in 2012. Bravo.

LUKE DONALD REACTS

Team Europe's skipper called Sunday's action "the most stressful 12 hours of my life" while speaking to TV after the final shot.

He said: "It’s been the most stressful 12 hours in my life. Shout-out to the Americans, Keegan, his captaincy. I knew it would be tough. I didn’t think they would be this tough on Sunday, they fought so hard, and all the respect to them.

"But this means a lot obviously to me and the team. We came here knowing that the task was very difficult.

"I couldn’t be more proud of these guys and what they have done through, how they have come together, how they are playing for history, how they are playing for the people that came before them, and now there will be talk for generations to come as someone going down in history. Couldn’t be more proud."

BRADLEY REACTS

A proud but stunned Keegan Bradley spoke to Damon Hack in the immediate aftermath of the Ryder Cup.

Here's how the conversation went...

Q. Keegan, the pundits said you had no shot today. Even in defeat, what did your players show you on this Sunday?

KEEGAN BRADLEY: Well, they're a tough group. We didn't play our best the first couple days, but we did today. That was really fun today. We had all of our fun in one day here at the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

Q. Scottie was in tears talking about your leadership and the bond of brothers on Team USA. What kind of praise is that when you're hearing that from the best player in the world?

KEEGAN BRADLEY: It means a lot to me. I really enjoyed doing this. I never thought I'd get to be a Ryder Cup captain. I'll never forget it. It was amazing.

Q. You know in sports sometimes there's Monday morning quarterbacking. In retrospect is there anything you might have done differently?

KEEGAN BRADLEY: Yeah, I think I would have set the course up a little different. But I don't know, they played better than us. They deserved to win. They're a great team. In my eyes, Luke Donald is the best European Ryder Cup captain of all time.

Q. If it's even possible, how has this event grown even more for you personally?

KEEGAN BRADLEY: I've got a real weird relationship with this tournament. A lot of heartbreak. But I still love it, and I love the guys. I love being out here again. I don't know if I'll ever get to do this again.

I'll remember this the rest of my life.

THE FAMOUS 47

Prior to this week, only 37 European players had won an away Ryder Cup. Now, 10 more can be added with Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy the only two members of this team who also triumphed at Medinah in 2012.

ENVELOPE RULE 'HAS TO CHANGE'

Firstly, it must be pointed out that Keegan Bradley was extremely gracious in defeat and heaped plenty of praise on to the Europeans as well as his opposite number, in particular in the aftermath of the Ryder Cup being decided earlier this evening.

However, the US skipper also made a point of insisting the 'Envelope Rule' - which saw Europe gain a potentially crucial half-point following Viktor Hovland's withdrawal - must change before Adare Manor in 2027.

Speaking in his team's post-Ryder Cup press conference, Bradley was asked if he had any ideas on how the rule could be tweaked in future, to which he replied: "I have a few ideas, but I'm not going to tell you right now.

"I mean, the rule has to change. I think it's obvious to everybody in the sports world, in this room. Nothing against Viktor. But that rule needs to change by the next Ryder Cup.”

IT'S IN THE DETAILS

A key part of what makes Luke Donald such a good Ryder Cup captain, according to those in the know, is his insatiable attention to detail.

Speaking in his post-Ryder Cup press conference, Donald touched on the fact that he has paid slightly less attention to his own game since taking over as captain and left no stone unturned in his quest to give the 12 players the best possible chance of winning.

He said: "I really have committed myself to this job because I feel I owe it to the players and I owe it to the Ryder Cup which has been so special to me. I've had so many incredible experiences.

"So yeah, I've had to kind of put my own game a little bit to the side, and every day I'm trying to think about things that could help us, come up with different things that might just give us a little edge.

"We came into this in New York, and we knew New York was not going to be easy. It was rough. It was brutal at times out there. It really was. It was nasty sometimes.

"But I think when you prep these guys enough and you communicate enough with these guys and you give them a plan and an idea and a theme and a motivation, they don't really need motivating, but you know, the theme causes the cohesion of the team. I was very fortunate to have 11 of the same guys from Rome.

"My job is literally to give these guys a better chance to win. It can be as simple as some very small things.

I'll give you an example. At the hotel rooms this week, the doors to our hotel rooms had a big crack that let in light. We brought things that covered the light. We put different shampoos that had a better smell. We had --

McIlroy chimed in with: "Le Labo if anyone is wondering. Really, really nice (laughter)."

Donald continued: "We changed the bedding because the beds weren't very good, and they just had sheets, and we created much nicer beds so guys could sleep. They could have more energy. Those are just little things. I'm going into some really small details.

"It's just taking the time and having the care that you want to do everything you can to kind of give these guys the best opportunity. You want create an environment where they can succeed.

"These are 12 amazing players, we know that. You're just trying to, again, put them in a position where they feel comfortable."

NICKLAUS-JACKLIN AWARD WINNER

The 2025 Nicklaus-Jacklin award was presented to Tommy Fleetwood at Bethpage after the Englishman was deemed to have best represented the spirit of the Ryder Cup throughout the week.

Fleetwood almost went undefeated once more as he led the European charge, only for Justin Thomas to deny him at the last via a superb performance of his own.

But, aside from his golfing prowess, Fleetwood impressed the Ryder Cup officials with his grace and humility at all times - resulting in the Englishman following on from Justin Rose (2023) in landing the prize.

Speaking about winning the award, Fleetwood said: “When you play in a team event like this, you don’t necessarily set out to win individual awards, but to focus on playing the right way and make the right decisions when it matters most.

"But to be acknowledged like this, winning an award that is named after such legends as Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin and in some way follow in their footsteps, is very cool.

"Sportsmanship is important to our game and the Ryder Cup is the most intense environment we experience, and things can always happen that test you, but Luke Donald has instilled in this team an amazing attitude that we should always play with the right spirit. That has really helped us get over the line and win the Ryder Cup once again.”
