Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu condemned the government’s decision to prosecute Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan for making certain allegations against the ward and village volunteers.
In a press release on July 21 (Friday), Mr. Naidu said it “is foolish and unethical to register a case against Mr. Pawan Kalyan, and that by doing so, the government has sent a message that it is not going to tolerate criticism of its mistakes.”
Mr. Naidu wondered if raising one’s voice against the government’s failures and misdeeds amounted to committing an offence. He demanded that the government give up its vengeful attitude towards the opposition parties and people fighting for solution to their problems.
“If a case is to be booked, it should first be against Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for misusing the government institutions,” Mr. Naidu said.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan had questioned the data theft, and if the allegation was true it would be a big mistake. But the government, instead of explaining its stand, had issued a G.O. facilitating the JSP chief’s prosecution, he said.
“The government should stop thinking how to silence the critics and focus on development of the State,” Mr. Naidu advised.
