CHANDIGARH: UT adviser Dharam Pal has asked officials to finalise a road map for the effective implementation of Chandigarh Master Plan (CMP) 2031 and prepare action plan for each and every component prescribed in the master plan for the benefit of city residents and overall growth of the city.
Sources said the adviser will review the progress in the coming days. The main focus will be related to future projects in residential and commercial areas. For the balanced growth of the city, different components of the Master Plan should be implemented in a phased manner and the UT will also make budgetary provisions for all these projects, including sub city centres in sectors 34 and 43, commercial areas in Manimajra, housing projects in third-phase sectors of Chandigarh, IT habitat, reutilisation of government housing, Beant Singh Memorial in Sector 42 and transit-oriented development along Vikas Marg among others, according to sources.
As the Chandigarh Master Plan 2031 had pointed out unauthorised constructions had come up on over 250 acre outside the lal dora in villages, the UT recently had started working towards land pooling policy. Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Human Settlement has been entrusted with the task of formulating the policy. The policy will help the administration to utilise surplus land for development works, which were planned as per the city’s Master Plan.
Most of the potential vacant land is locked in different pockets, predominantly in villages in the city’s periphery. A major chunk of this land is facing serious threat of encroachments and illegal constructions.
