Maximalists, ready your wallets, because prints are sooo back this summer. It started out with everyone’s newfound obsession with polka dots, and as the pattern resurgence straightened out (ha, get it), another nostalgic print has been reimagined: stripes.
And I’m not talking the classic black and white Breton stripe shirt that are reminiscent of caricatured historical prisoners or French sailors. We did that back in 2012, and it didn’t stick around. Now, brands are playing with colour, silhouettes and making the pattern a lot more wearable for every day.

Stripes were pretty much everywhere during Copenhagen Fashion Week back in August, on runways and street style alike. Designers including Marimekko, OpéraSPORT and Baum und Pferdgerten sent a rainbow of vibrant rugby shirts and jumpers down their respective runways, marking the Scandi-fashion scene’s stamp of approval on the trend.
Earlier this year, Dior, Chanel and Provenza Schouler also showcased the emerging trend during their SS25 runways. These designers mostly stuck to the traditional black and white colour palette, but reimagined the nostalgic design to be more in line with today’s silhouettes. No Monopoly jail stripes here!

Prada and Louis Vuitton also dabbled in stripes, but in more of an inventive fashion. Both the brands played around with mixing colours, and Louis Vuitton added drama and dimension through puffy sleeves and peplum hems.
And as trends always do, stripes have trickled down from designer to high end and more affordable brands. So, if you’ve been eyeing off creators on your Instagram and TikTok feeds rocking marshmallow-striped rugby jerseys or viral colourful Breton stripe tops, we’ve found 12 pieces to implement some fun into your wardrobe.
