Steps cancel Cardiff gig which was re-scheduled due to Covid

Pop group Steps have announced that their rescheduled show in Cardiff has been cancelled. They were due to perform on Wednesday, June 1, at at the Motorpoint arena in Cardiff.

The group were originally scheduled to perform on Monday, November 29, 2021, but due to Covid-19 cases in their touring party, they could no longer.

In a statement back in November, Steps said the positive cases had made continuing their 'What the Future Holds' tour impossible and that the show would be rescheduled to summer 2022.

The statement reads: "We have tried every possible way to proceed with our ‘What The Future Holds’ arena tour dates in Cardiff and Bournemouth that were rescheduled because of Covid. Unfortunately, due to production issues it’s become clear it’s impossible for us to put on a show at the level of our past indoor tours for just two dates. We have therefore taken the difficult decision to cancel these two shows."

The band said refunds would be available from point of purchase.

Steps are a British five-piece known for their electro-pop sound and sparkling stage presence, complete with matching outfits and fun dance routines. The 'What the future holds' tour was due to take in dates in Sheffield, Nottingham, Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Aberdeen, Belfast, Liverpool, Leeds, Glasgow, Brighton, and London, along with Cardiff and Bournemouth, with fellow popstar Sophie Ellis-Bextor as support act.

Since their 1997 debut the band have sold more than 20 million records worldwide and achieved three UK number one albums - two of which were greatest hits LPs.
