Some Starbucks fans have shared same worry about chain's new olive oil infused coffee

Starbucks has announced a new range of drinks today called Oleato, which is infused with olive oil.

The new range of beverages are infused with a press of Partanna extra virgin olive oil to create a "velvety smooth coffee".

The new beverages, Golden Foam Cold Brew, Iced Shaken Espresso and Caffè Latte, were initially launched exclusively in Italy in February, before dropping in the US in March – and now it's available in 50 select stores in London.

While some people can't wait to try the new concoction of flavours, some Starbucks fans are also worried about how their body will react to it.

Because olive oil is a natural mild laxative and caffeine is a diuretic, people are worried drinking it will leave them rushing to the toilet.

One person said: "People are actually going out of their way to pay for olive oil in Starbucks coffee and then promptly s*****ng their pants."

Another asked: "Has anyone here tried the Starbucks Oleato olive oil coffee yet? Does it make you poopy in the pants? I'm so CURIOUS about it but scared to try because I do not want to spend the day in Great Sadness. "

Someone else replied saying: "Both coffee and the oil are laxatives, so it's a double whammy."

Another commented: "I wanna drink that cursed Starbucks olive oil drink and have the best s**t of my life."

The Mirror spoke to Dr Deborah Lee of Dr. Fox Online Pharmacy, who confirmed: "Olive oil is indeed a laxative. It's been shown to be a good treatment for constipation.

"The oil coats the bowel wall, lubricating the passage of the stool and acts as a faecal softener. It helps the stool retain water."

However, Dr Lee wouldn't be worried unless the drink contains "more than one tablespoon of olive oil," which could result in diarrhoea. She added: "I would not recommend having more than one cup of this per day."

She added: "Adding olive oil to coffee tends to delay the absorption of caffeine, meaning the caffeine boost may last longer. But this could mean the diuretic effect of caffeine also lasts longer."

That being said, consuming olive oil, in moderation, is a "good thing", as it acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory, adds Dr Lee.

She added: "However, olive oil is high in calories – one tablespoon is 125 calories – so for those trying to lose weight, only relatively small amounts should be consumed."

The Mirror has reached out to Starbucks for comment.

Reactions from people who have tried the Oleato range so far seem to be mixed, with many excited to try it.

One person said: "I know TikTok has people up in arms about the olive oil coffee from Starbucks but I just tried it and it was a yes for me."

Another agreed, saying: "Same! I had a sample and I wasn't mad at it at all."

A third simply said it was "yummy".

Meanwhile, a couple of reporters from The Mirror have also tried out the unusual combination, and "liked it more" than they expected.

However, it's not to everyone's taste. One Twitter used said: "Review of the new Starbucks coffee Oleato. Is just coffee with olive oil.

"I should have known because is obvious by the name but I didn't think it through. It tastes like pure olive oil, which is neat for a sip, bad for a 'tall' coffee. I couldn't finish it. Is bad."

Another agreed, saying: "PSA: do NOT get the olive oil coffee (Oleato) from Starbucks. It's nasty and will stick with you much longer than is necessary. Don't waste your money."

However, others liked the taste of the olive oil-infused coffee. Another Twitter user said:
