Spider-Man 4 release date, cast, leaks and theories, and everything else we know about the Marvel movie

Tom Holland as Peter Parker unmasked and in the middle of a fight during a scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Spider-Man 4 is the next Marvel movie to hit the big screen, and it's currently in the works. Tom Holland will return as Peter Parker for the first time in half a decade when the film releases next summer (although filming is temporarily on pause after he suffered a concussion from a stunt gone wrong).

Officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the movie will bridge the gap between Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday, with an exciting mix of new and familiar faces joining Holland's webslinger. That includes Jon Bernthal's Punisher, who's making the jump from the small screen to the big screen, and maybe even an animated character joining the world of live-action. But more on that later...

We've put together everything you need to know about the Spider-Man 4 release date, plot theories, confirmed cast, trailers and more to get you all up to date with one of the most highly anticipated upcoming Marvel movies.

The Spider-Man 4 release date is July 31, 2026, with the movie releasing as part of Marvel Phase 6.

It was originally slated for July 24 before it was pushed back a week, possibly to avoid clashing with Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which also stars Tom Holland and is due to be released on July 17. Filming is set to kick off sometime this summer – in other words, very, very soon.

Filming started in Glasgow last month, before moving to Leavesden Studios in Watford. The production paused temporarily at the end of September 2025 after Tom Holland was taken to hospital following a stunt accident. Marvel hasn't confirmed yet if this will lead to any delays in the schedule.

Is there a Spider-Man 4 trailer?

No, there isn't a Spider-Man 4 trailer at the moment as filming on the movie hasn't kicked off just yet.

Based on the next two big-screen Marvel outings, we can expect a trailer in January or February 2026, as the first trailer for Thunderbolts* dropped six months ahead of its release date, and the Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer was released five months before its release date. Whenever a trailer does drop, we'll be the first to let you know.

Spider-Man 4 cast

Tom Holland and Stranger Things star Sadie Sink were the first confirmed cast members for Spider-Man 4, with Sink's role is still being kept under wraps (although fans think she might be playing Jean Grey). Zendaya will be back as MJ Watson and Jacob Batalon is returning as Ned, but it's unclear what kind of role they would play, as they won't know who Peter is after the events of No Way Home.

Jon Bernthal's Punisher is also joining Spider-Man: Brand New Day, making his big-screen debut after returning for a couple of episodes in Daredevil: Born Again. Frank Castle first appeared in the Netflix TV series Daredevil and later starred in his own show, The Punisher. Plus, Into the Spider-Verse voice actor Marvin Jones III is reported to be bringing his crime boss character Tombstone to live-action, a first for Marvel.

Mark Ruffalo is possibly set to reprise his role of The Hulk, making it his first MCU appearance since She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, although the actor said recently that he is "still waiting to hear" from Marvel.

As for new characters, Sony boss Amy Pascal teased that "there’s a lot of fantastic female characters" in the movie, so it looks like we can expect some fresh faces to join the cast. As for who that could be, you'll have to stay tuned.

Below is the list of the confirmed Spider-Man 4 cast so far:

  • Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
  • Sadie Sink
  • Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher
  • Zendaya as MJ Watson
  • Jacob Batalon as Ned

"For me, I want to do justice to Peter Parker's character. I want to bring the fans something that's really worthy of their time, and I’m very grateful for their investment in our franchise," Holland said in an interview with Esquire. "I don't mean financially, I mean the time to go to the cinema three times. That's a big ask."

He went on to discuss "sneaky research online" into what fans were discussing between Spider-Man: No Way Home and now, which he took to Marvel. "It's been a really fun process developing the movie. It's the first time I've ever been allowed in that part of the process, and it's definitely a stressful experience. But I think where we've got to, now that we're shooting, we are shooting absolute gold," he added.

"I have such a good understanding of who Peter Parker is, and I have been so lucky that the fan base has been so vocal about what they love from the franchise," he continued. "We've been able to really lean into those things and capitalize on those things. So, I love standing up for the character, being in the room, and making sure that the decisions we make are what's best for Peter Parker because he really does feel like one of my best friends. It's a really weird experience diving into the character again. It just feels like you're hanging out with an old pal."

Spider-Man 4 plot speculation

There are no official Spider-Man 4 plot details out there at the moment, but we do know that the movie is titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day. During an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in late March 2025, Tom Holland teased the new movie saying, "I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That's all I can say."

Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with Peter realizing that the only way to protect the sanctity of the multiverse is to erase himself from everyone's memories, including his loved ones. Before Doctor Strange casts the spell to wipe all traces of Peter Parker from the world, he promises MJ and Ned that he'll find them and help them remember him, so we'll see if he follows through on that vow. After speaking to Happy, Peter decides not to hang up his Spidey suit for good, so we can expect plenty of web-slinging action.

The confirmation of the film's official title might have offered some clues, though: it's a direct reference to a divisive comic book storyline that ran in 2008 and was essentially a soft reboot for Peter Parker. In the story, he agreed to Mephisto's terms to sacrifice his marriage to Mary-Jane in order to save the life of his Aunt May. We don't know if this storyline will be important for the upcoming movie, but it could fit well with the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Especially since Mephisto just made his MCU debut in Ironheart...

Another clue could be found in the casting of Sadie Sink. If the rumors are true and she is playing Jean Grey (or Firestar…), then we can expect some sort of crossover between Spider-Man and the X-Men, too. Kevin Feige previously said that the X-Men would be an "important part" of the MCU's future after Avengers: Secret Wars arrives in 2027, so it would make sense to lay the groundwork for that in the movies directly preceding Secret Wars.

On the flip side, the movie might go in the opposite direction, and avoid all the big cosmic stuff altogether. "I think there's a promise at the end of No Way Home that, for as sad as it is, Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life. We are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories, him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being, by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with – for lack of a better term – street level crime as opposed to world-ending events that he faced when working with the other characters," Feige recently told GamesRadar+ and other outlets.

One thing that seems a little more set in stone, however, is Brand New Day's place on the Marvel timeline. Set photos recently revealed signage for an in-universe construction project, which is due to finish in December 2027. That puts the events of the movie around the same time as Thunderbolts*, which takes place in late 2027.

"It's been a really fun process developing the movie," Holland recalled to Esquire. "It's the first time I've ever been allowed in that part of the process, and it's definitely a stressful experience. But I think where we've got to, now that we're shooting, we are shooting absolute gold."

The actor also revealed that, prior to pitch meetings, he'd been poring through Reddit and "actively sifting through the internet" to learn firsthand what fans wanted from the next Spidey movie. "I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it's really important, because we make these movies for [the fans]."
