A south London teacher and convicted sex offender has received a lifetime ban after exploiting a pupil and taking her to a Travelodge for sex.
The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) confirmed that 27-year-old Waleed Nasir will never teach again following a tribunal hearing.
Nasir was working at Orchard Park High School in Shirley, Croydon when he began singling out a pupil to help with tasks. This escalated to secret meetings in his car where he engaged in sexual activity with the pupil.
In 2023, staff at the Travelodge in Whyteleafe, Surrey, became concerned when Nasir booked a double room with the pupil, who appeared to be underage. They called the police, who arrested him at the scene.
Nasir at first denied wrongdoing and even asked a friend to lie for him. However, officers later uncovered sexualised messages he had exchanged with the pupil.
Nasir was subsequently dismissed from his role in June 2023. Court transcripts revealed how Nasir began to give the pupil extra help before they became “friends” and met outside school.
The judge said: “You began meeting out of school, she would go and sit in your car, and there you would give her what she described as hickeys or love bites on her chest, neck and breast. Things escalated from there… you were touching her breasts and she was touching your penis.”
In a statement, Detective Constable Michael Barker, lead investigator from Surrey Police’s Child Abuse Team, said: “As a recently qualified teacher, Nasir would have had the most up-to-date safeguarding training, so would undoubtedly have been aware he was committing a serious crime against a vulnerable young person. Despite that, Nasir took advantage of his position of authority.”
Nasir later admitted three counts of sexual activity with a child while in a position of trust and one count of inciting sexual activity. At Guildford Crown Court on November 18 2024, he was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for two years.
In his sentencing remarks, the judge described Nasir’s conduct as “a gross breach of trust which demonstrates predatory behaviour and exploitative behaviour by you of a pupil”. He was also ordered to complete rehabilitation activity, carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, and was placed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years.
A sexual harm prevention order lasting seven years was also imposed. The TRA panel later concluded his behaviour amounted to a “gross breach of trust” and recommended a lifetime teaching ban.
The panel noted that Nasir previously had a good history and had not been the subject of any disciplinary finding. However, it decided that the seriousness of the offences outweighed any mitigating factors and that a ban was necessary.
The Secretary of State confirmed the prohibition in August 2025 and ruled out any chance of review. Officials said that allowing him to remain in the profession would “seriously undermine public confidence”.
Orchard Park High School did not want to provide a comment on this case.
