Snow forecast for parts of the UK as temperatures to plummet this week

  • The Met Office has forecast a significant drop in temperatures for the UK this week, with the return of snow and gales after a recent warm spell.
  • Strong winds, with gusts up to 80mph, are expected in northern Scotland, accompanied by rain and blustery showers, prompting a weather warning.
  • While the southeast may see temperatures up to 15C on Wednesday, the northwest will be cooler.
  • From Thursday, wintry conditions are predicted, bringing brisk winds and outbreaks of rain across most of the country.
  • There is a chance of snow on Scottish mountains from Thursday, with Friday expected to be "markedly colder nationwide" and potential for snow on lower hills.
