Saquon Barkley: Odell Beckham-Giants reunion ‘would be a great story’

Arguably the biggest key to the New York Giants’ success this season has been Saquon Barkley. Through eight games, Barkley has put the team on his back, creating quite the Comeback Player of the Year Award campaign for himself.

The Giants have been winning with sub-par talent at the receiver position, leading to the team being tied to free agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The rumors of Beckham being connected to Big Blue amplified when the Giants did not acquire anyone at the trade deadline.

Beckham and Barkley on the same team was fun to see for the short time it lasted. The two have remained close and Barkley made it clear he would love to have Beckham rejoin Big Blue.

“He knows how I feel. He knows how we feel in this locker room,” Barkley told reporters. “I’ve said before, he’s a heck of a player. I’m more just, not saying worried, just focused on him continuing attacking his rehab, get ready. He’s a special player. He’s still got a lot left in the tank. And I know how he is already with his mindset going at his rehab. When he’s able to come back, he’s going to show his skillset.

“He’s Odell. He’s a heck of a player. When he’s healthy, he’s one of the best players in the league. Why wouldn’t anybody want him?”

And if Beckham came “home,” what a story that would be.

“Personally, I think it would be a great story to come back to a place that you were at before and continue to help build success and continue to come here with the right mindset and be a leader and be the type of player he can be for his team,” Barkley added. “Like I said, he’s a special player. He can help any team.”

Most had mixed feelings about Beckham’s departure from New York, but he has since expressed an appreciation for his time with the team.

Beckham would clearly be an upgrade over anyone the Giants have at the position, but they’re going to face stiff competition for his services and would have to be willing to sign him to a multi-year deal.
