Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 rumors and leaks — everything we know so far

Android Headlines render of an opened Galaxy Z Fold 7 showing the cover display and back panel with camera array.

If you're eagerly awaiting the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung is just as eager to show it off to you. And we're just hours away from seeing if the new foldable can live up to the hype.

Last month, the company has posted multiple announcements promising an "Ultra" version of its foldable, the thinnest Galaxy Fold ever and an AI-powered camera.

While that first teaser sparked talk of a Galaxy Z Fold Ultra model, we think Samsung still plans to release a lone Galaxy Z Fold 7 offering, though this one figures to draw heavily from the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition that launched last year. This particular model was based on the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but increased the size of the display and improved the main camera while making the body lighter and thinner. And wouldn't you know it? Those are the rumored changes coming to the Z Fold 7.

With Samsung facing stepped-up competition among the best foldable phones, you may wonder if that's enough to push the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to the top of the heap. But Samsung may have some other changes to talk about based on the rumors we've heard so far.

Here's everything we know about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 based on those reports, as Samsung executives take the stage for what we assume is the launch event for another round of foldable phones.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Cheat Sheet

  • We expect to see the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at Samsung's July 9 Unpacked event
  • The Galaxy Z Fold 7 could get a larger 8-inch foldable display and 6.5-inch cover display
  • The 200MP main camera from the Galaxy S25 Ultra could become the Z Fold 7's main camera, too
  • The under-display camera could get some much needed quality upgrades
  • This could be the thinnest Z Fold so far, measuring 4.2mm when unfolded
  • The Galaxy Z Fold 7 should run on a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset
  • Expect enhanced durability, including a stronger foldable screen and less prominent crease
  • Pricing could match the $1,899 cost of the Galaxy Z Fold 6

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Rumored price and availability

Samsung has set a date for its next product launch event, with Galaxy Unpacked 2025 set to take place tomorrow (July 9). You would figure that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be the star of the show, given that its silhouette features prominently in the event's invitation. (See our guide for how to watch the Galaxy Unpacked live stream for your options to stream the announcement.)

Now that we're less than a day away from the launch, pricing is starting to come into focus. As you may recall, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 got a $100 price increase, bringing its starting cost to $1,899. A leaker posts that prices shouldn't change this year — in other words, look for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to cost $1,899, too.

We've heard that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may be harder to find due to smaller quantities being produced than in previous generations. Hopefully, that won't impact users who are already interested in foldables and potentially buying Samsung's new one.

But it could be that Samsung's still struggling to get regular phone users to ditch their traditional slate-style devices in favor of something more flexible, and is adjusting its production estimates to compensate.

If you're thinking of buying the new Z Fold 7, or whatever else Samsung might be showing off at Unpacked, then take advantage of Samsung's $50 discount offer when you register interest on its store website ahead of Galaxy Unpacked.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Design

As noted, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to take several design cues from the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition, a model only sold in small quantities in Korea and China. This enhanced version of the Z Fold 6 was larger than the original, but also thinner and lighter, a flawless combination in theory.

Word is that this could see the Z Fold 7 come with a larger 8-inch foldable display, plus a 6.5-inch cover screen. That would mark the second year in a row that Samsung has increased the size of its flagship foldable.

In a June teaser about its foldable releases, Samsung promised "the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet" — and it's the thin part of that statement we're going to focus on.

Rumors are unclear about just how thin the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be, with some claiming it will be 4.5mm when unfolded; however, different reports suggest the phone will be even slimmer at 3.9mm. The most definitive rumor seems to put thinness at 4.2mm, which would edge the Galaxy Z Fold 7 just past the Oppo Find N5 as the thinnest device around, at least when opened.

Aesthetically, we could see the Galaxy Z Fold 6's sharp corners disappear, in order to make the phone fit in with the look of the Galaxy S25 series' rounder design. Renders also show the new inner punch-hole camera, and a noticeably thinner hinge.

While Samsung has been touting the new foldable phone as an "Ultra" model, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could fall short of the Galaxy S25 Ultra in one key area. Rumors suggest the new foldable will keep the IP48 dust and water resistance rating of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. That's short of the IP68 rating the Galaxy S25 Ultra offers. Basically, it means that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be able to withstand a dunk in water, but it can only keep larger dust particles from getting inside the device — there's no protection against finer dust as there is on phones like the S25 Ultra.

To see how all this looks ahead of the phone's debut at Unpacked, check out the most recent renders above provided by leaker Evan Blass. They really show off how thin the Galaxy Z Fold 7 figures to be. There are also real-life photos that purport to show off the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

As for colors, German site Winfuture forecasts black, silver and blue options for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in a post that contains a lot of other specs for Samsung's upcoming foldable phones.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Display

We're hoping that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition will donate its displays as well as its size to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, as the leaks claim. That would translate to the Z Fold 7 using a 6.5-inch outer screen and an 8-inch inner screen, presumably both using AMOLED tech and 120Hz max refresh rates for smooth performance.

The most crucial change to the screen could mean a less visible crease on the main display. One report went so far as to claim that the company could eliminate it entirely, but we'll keep our expectations tempered until then. A separate leak also suggested that the display will be more durable this year.

It's also claimed that these screens will support Samsung's ProScaler system, like the Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra, to help content fit better on-screen, and offer a 2,600-nit rated peak brightness.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Cameras

While Galaxy foldables have repeatedly drawn the short straw where camera upgrades are concerned, that may change this year. One report claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will get the same 200MP lens as the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. That's quite the upgrade from the 50MP cameras we're used to getting.

We haven't heard much about the other cameras on the phone right now. But the expectation is the Galaxy Z Fold 7 features the same 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto, 10MP front selfie, and 4MP under-display inner selfie camera found on the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Our main hope is that Samsung does something about the under-display camera on the inside of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It's sharp enough to make video calls but it isn't great for proper photos. A higher resolution sensor or new display materials are two potential answers, but given Samsung has used this camera since the Galaxy Z Fold 3, perhaps major upgrades are just wishful thinking.

The cameras do appear a bit more flush with the body compared to those of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, based on recent renders.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Performance

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 — Samsung's other foldable — may be splitting the difference when it comes to chipsets. But it seems pretty clear the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will run on a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the same system on chip found in the Galaxy S25 series. That's been confirmed by regulatory filings for the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The Z Fold 7 should come with 256GB of storage as standard, and then 512GB and 1TB for a few hundred extra dollars. RAM should stay at 12GB like the Galaxy Z Fold 6. But we would not say no to Samsung increasing the RAM to 16GB or even higher for better multi-tasking and AI performance.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Battery and charging

The battery specs for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 should remain unchanged from previous Z Folds. That would mean a 4,400 mAh battery capacity with 25W peak wired charging and up to 15W wireless charging.

Hopefully, with a new chipset, the Z Fold 7 will still last longer on a charge than previous models, but more substantial upgrades would be welcome, given rival devices all have larger batteries.

New leaked images reveal the UL Demko certifications, given by Denmark's national electronics certification body, following an earlier Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification, for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7's batteries. According to the report, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have a lower minimum charge capacity, but the average should remain at 4,400 mAh.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Software and AI features

With Android 16 launching, Samsung is line to roll out the new operating system to its phones later this summer. Indeed, Samsung has already launch the One UI 8 beta for Galaxy S25 phones, raising the very real possibility that the full update will debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Folds have had S Pen stylus compatibility for several generations. But things could be about to change in the name of thinness, as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will apparently not use a stylus digitizer — the layer of the display that detects where a stylus is and turns that into inputs. Marketing material leaked at the last minute doesn't even mention the S Pen, making us wonder if the stylus is even a part of the new release.

However, a different source says Samsung will offer a brand-new S Pen for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with a new tip and a larger body. Hopefully this one is the accurate stylus rumor as it would be a great shame not to have a proper writing and drawing tool available for the big inner screen of the Z Fold.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Outlook

Now that the next Galaxy Unpacked event will begin in less than a day, we'll soon know everything about the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Alongside Samsung's expected announcement, we can also bet that the next iteration of the company's software, One UI 8, will be shown off with new Galaxy AI features. Certainly, we'd expect the new Fold to support the same AI capabilities introduced with the S25 launch this year. But if Samsung is serious about this Ultra business, that could mean Galaxy AI-specific features for its foldables.
