Salesforce Is Buying Waii to Power Natural Language Data Access

Salesforce has signed agreement to acquire Waii, a fast-growing startup known for its enterprise-grade natural language-to-SQL platform. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2026. It is said to bring advanced data query capabilities into Salesforce’s Data Cloud and further strengthen its push into AI-powered enterprise tools.

Waii’s technology allows users to ask plain-language questions and get back complex, production-ready SQL queries, making it easier for business teams to access data without needing help from technical experts. Its core innovation is a dynamic metadata knowledge graph that maps an enterprise’s entire data environment, not just database schemas. This enables a deeper contextual understanding of data relationships, governance rules, and business logic, delivering more accurate and relevant results.

Salesforce is planning to integrate Waii’s platform into its own products like Tableau Next and Agentforce. It will allow users to explore data using natural language. This will form the foundation of a new semantic engine within Tableau, supporting live knowledge graphs and agentic workflows.

The future of business isn’t about having the most data; it’s about making that data speak a common language. Our vision is to empower every employee, from the boardroom to the frontline, to have a trusted conversation with their data. At Salesforce, we know that a deep understanding of metadata is the key to this future. With Waii, we’re not just augmenting our stack; we’re acquiring the catalyst that makes this vision a reality for our customers.

This is Salesforce’s second AI-focused acquisition in recent times. A couple of days ago, the company also signed a deal to acquire Bluebirds, which is an AI-driven lead prospecting platform. While Bluebirds is set to improve Salesforce’s Sales Cloud and automate top-of-funnel sales tasks, Waii strengthens the company’s core analytics and data access capabilities.
