Ryder Cup 2025 pairings: Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton picked for opening match

Jon Rahm will begin Team Europe’s quest to win the 2025 Ryder Cup along with Tyrrell Hatton in the opening pairing of the foursomes in New York on Friday.

Rahm and Hatton will have the honour of getting the event under way against Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas.

Explaining the decision to start with Rahm and Hatton, Team Europe captain Luke Donald said: "We know in match play you have to get off to a good start and these guys have had a lot of success together. Rahm is 4-0 in foursomes.

"They know how to win, get on well and are a strong partnership. We are very happy to send them out first."

Although, Team USA captain Keegan Bradley believes DeChambeau and Thomas are the perfect choice to face Rahm and Hatton.

He said:"Besides the fact they are both phenomenal players, they bring a spark to our team.

“Bryson has been incredible in the locker room and we really want him to lead our team out.

"Everyone really wanted to play with each other."

The second match sees world No1 Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley taking on the pairing of Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick

Furthermore, Donald has opted to reunite Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy after winning both of their matches as a duo in Rome in 2023.

Fleetwood and McIlroy will face Collin Morikawa and Harris English in the third match, while the final showdown pits Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre against Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

The opening ceremony was pushed forward to Wednesday because of weather concerns, but the pairings were revealed on Thursday night, UK time.
