Alex Bowman is a big fan of Ryan Blaney, whose dramatic victory at Daytona saved his playoff hopes. Blaney drove from 13th to first in the final two laps, cutting through several must-win drivers to win in a four-wide photo finish.
Cole Custer was leading at the white flag, but Justin Haley pulled ahead at the exit of Turn 2. He made a wild block on Custer, which opened the door for Blaney on the outside. The leader fanned out three-wide through the final set of corners, but there was no stopping Blaney.
At the finish line, Blaney, Suarez, Haley, and Custer were four-wide for the race win. Blaney claimed victory by just 0.031s. Suarez finished second, Haley third, Custer fourth, and yet another must-win driver in Erik Jones fifth.
"What a wild last couple laps, honestly," said Blaney. "I was with Cole, I kind of asked him on the restart, if you go to the top I'm going with you. We kind of just waited and waited and then the opportunity came and he made a good move to get to the top, and we were able to really get good shows.
"A couple good guys behind us and then it kind of cleared the way for us when the 7 [Haley] and 41 [Custer] got racing and I was able to clear on the top and just barely hold out for the win."
This is Blaney's second win of the 2025 season and the 15th of his NASCAR Cup career.
Stages 1 and 2
It didn't take long for the NASCAR Cup race at Daytona to devolve into complete chaos. Just 18 laps into the race, Tyler Reddick spun and hit the inside wall, collecting Todd Gilliland.
Suddenly, Reddick was in danger of falling back to Bowman and finding himself on the playoff hot seat. However, another twist came just a few minutes later.
Bubba Wallace, Joey Logano, and Kyle Busch came together near the front of the field, triggering a wreck that collected about a dozen cars. Among those involved was Bowman, who was unable to continue.
Suddenly, his fate was out of his hands, and he could only look on and hope there were no new winners. After a brief red flag, the race resumed.
Larson went on to win the opening stage with a push from Chastain.
The second stage was far calmer, and the only yellow was for the stalled No. 77 car of Carson Hocevar. That set up an eight-lap dash to the end of Stage 2, and once again, Chastain was battling up front. He took the lead from Logano with a helpful push from Bell, snagging the stage win.
Stage 3
As the field prepared for the final 60 laps of action, Chastain had to go to the rear after being penalized for pitting outside the box.
John Hunter Nemechek took control of the race, but there was no need for any green-flag pit stops when Hamlin's previously damaged car triggered another yellow with around 50 laps to go.
While most chose to pit, a handful of cars stayed out until one lap before green in order to get as much fuel as possible. Nemechek returned to pit road, as he faced a penalty for his fuel can leaving his stall.
On the restart with 45 laps to go, Logano took control and remained in control for much of the final stage. But with just over ten laps left in the race, Logano spun from the lead. He lost a lap in the process.
Two drivers facing a must-win led the field back to the green flag with Jones and Haley. There were just eight laps to go, setting up a mad dash to the checkered flag.
