Roy Hodgson under increasing Crystal Palace pressure with Steve Cooper in the frame

Roy Hodgson is under increasing pressure at Crystal Palace, with Steve Cooper in the frame to replace him.

Palace face London rivals Brentford at Selhurst Park on Saturday, with scrutiny building on Hodgson as the Eagles slide closer to the Premier League relegation zone.

Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea means Palace are now winless in eight matches and just three points above the bottom three.

Cooper is available after being sacked by Nottingham Forest earlier this month and replaced by former Tottenham and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Palace interviewed Cooper in the summer and remain admirers of the former England Under-17 head coach.

Former Spain, Real Madrid and Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui is also on the market and was spotted at Selhurst Park during the 2-1 defeat by Tottenham in October.

Palace chairman Steve Parish had wanted Hodgson and his long-time coach Ray Lewington to remain until the end of the season, allowing the Eagles to take their time to recruit their next full-time manager next summer.

But Palace’s dip in form may force his hand, with ex-Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Oliver Glasner, another unattached manager, also admired by some within Palace’s hierarchy.

Palace’s home match against Brentford on Saturday could go a long way to deciding Hodgson’s fate.

The Bees themselves go into the game on the back of four defeats and are in poor form themselves.
