Richard King has taken part in St Mirren training but is unlikely to make his debut against Arbroath this weekend.
The centre-back, signed from Jamaican club Cavalier, arrived in Scotland last week after international duty at the Gold Cup.
King, 23, has signed an initial two-year deal at St Mirren, with the club holding the option of a further year. A nominal fee was paid to secure the transfer.
The defender, signed to replace Richard Taylor who left on a free transfer to join Bolton, is likely to slot into the left side of a back three under Stephen Robinson this season.
However, after the 2-0 friendly win over Airdrieonians, which King watched from the stands, St Mirren boss Robinson insisted the centre-back would have to be managed properly as he adapts to his new surroundings.

King is, therefore, unlikely to feature in the squad for the Premier Sports Cup fixture against Arbroath this weekend.
"We got Richard training on Monday but he's not had a break," said Robinson.
"He's played international football constantly last month and club football the rest of the year, so it's important we manage him properly.
"He'll train properly on Friday but probably won't be involved on Saturday.
"It's a completely different style of football and it'll probably take him a bit of time."The pace of the Jamaican league to the Scottish one is going to be very different in terms of pace and style.
"We need to make sure he doesn't get injured, but we believe he's got a lot of potential."
Mika Mandron netted a double in the final pre-season outing against Airdrie on Tuesday evening. The striker also missed a penalty.
St Mirren will play one final warm-up match on Wednesday afternoon, a closed-door friendly, before competitive action begins.
Conor McMenamin missed the match due to a sickness bug, with new signing Liam Donnelly sidelined for a couple of weeks with an Achilles injury.
