A retired New York City police chief died Friday after he was found unresponsive in the backyard pool of his Long Island home, police said.

According to the New York Post, Anthony Izzo, 75, was found in the pool at his home on Malverne Lane in Stony Brook around 7:45 pm, after a family member called 911, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Officers and Stony Brook Fire Department crews rushed to the residence and pulled Izzo from the pool. First responders performed CPR before taking him to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they do not suspect any criminality in connection with his death.
Izzo had a long career with the NYPD, beginning as a police trainee at the age of 17 in 1968. He worked his way through the ranks and was promoted to chief of the Organized Crime Control Bureau in 2006.
He also served as the commanding officer of the 115th Precinct in Jackson Heights, Queens, in 1995.
The NYPD and several police organizations paid tribute to Izzo following his death, remembering him for his decades of service and leadership.
“His leadership and dedication to the people of New York City left a lasting legacy,” the 115th Precinct said in a tribute, offering condolences to his family and loved ones.
The NYPD Columbia Association, which represents Italian heritage within the department, also described Izzo as a distinguished NYPD chief and a longtime supporter of the organization.
