Remake Of '90S Classic 'Don't Tell Mom' Hits Theaters

The Crow Remake (movie)

A remake of the '90s classic 'Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead' is set to hit theaters this spring, featuring a star-studded ensemble cast. The film will be led by Nicole Richie and June Squibb, with Jermaine Fowler, Ms. Pat, Gus Kenworthy, and a group of talented newcomers rounding out the cast.

The storyline follows 17-year-old Tanya, played by Simone Joy Jones, who had plans for a European vacation with friends before college. However, her mother, portrayed by Ms. Pat, decides to go on a wellness retreat, leaving Tanya in charge of her siblings. When the babysitter unexpectedly passes away, Tanya takes on a job working for Rose, played by Nicole Richie. As she navigates the challenges of work, family, and romance, Tanya experiences the trials of adulthood during what was supposed to be her last carefree summer.

The reboot was directed by Wade Allain-Marcus and written by Chuck Hayward, known for his work on 'Ted Lasso.' The film is set to premiere exclusively in theaters on April 12, courtesy of Iconic Events Releasing, with a later release on BET+. The original 1991 film, directed by Stephen Herek, gained a cult following over the years despite modest box office success.

Tyra Banks serves as an executive producer for the new version through her company SMiZE Productions. The production team includes Juliet Berman, Oren Segal, Justin Nappi, and Juliana Maio, with senior executive producers Michael Phillips and Tova Laiter. The deal was facilitated by Iconic Events Releasing and the filmmakers' representatives.
