Ralf Rangnick and Timo Werner endorsement show why Yussuf Poulsen would be ideal for Leeds United

Daniel Farke and Leeds United are well underway with their preparation for the 2023/24 Championship campaign but they're yet to sign off on any incoming transfers. The Whites have seen Diego Llorente, Brenden Aaronson and Robin Koch leave the club in the last week with Marc Roca expected to follow suit.

The new head coach at Elland Road knows what is required to win promotion back to the Premier League having won the Championship title with Norwich City on two occasions. His Canaries side attracted plenty of plaudits for their high-octane approach and should therefore come as little surprise to see the Whites linked with RB Leipzig striker Yussuf Poulsen.

The 29-year-old Danish frontman has been a standout performer for the Bundesliga side in their rise to prominence, winning two DFB-Pokal title along the way. Poulsen is Leipzig's record appearance holder and highly thought of at the Red Bull Arena.

Former Chelsea striker Timo Werner has played alongside Poulsen for the majority of his tenure at the club and knows a thing or two about the challenges posed by the English game. The German's glowing endorsement of his strike partner hint at why Poulsen may be perfect for Leeds United this season.

“It’s great for me with him up front.," Werner told the Bundesliga. "We complement each other really well. He likes going for aerial challenges, which I don’t. He’s got an amazing set of lungs."

The Championship is deemed a much more physical league than that of the Premier League and the Whites will have to find a way to win dirty, as well as in style. Poulsen's physical build should stand him in good stead if he were to move to Elland Road.

Farke will have to bring in the right characters this summer, regardless of their footballing ability. Former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has a very high opinion of Poulsen.

He added: "I’ve always had a high opinion of him, and he’s continued to improve in every sense since he arrived here. It’s a joy to work with him and to see how far he’s progressed in recent weeks and months.”
