Pro-Trump protesters in New York want DeSantis to ‘go home’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was met by dozens of Donald Trump supporters rallying outside a book-signing event this weekend in New York who weren’t happy to see him.

“Go home, DeSantis, go home!” a Trump supporter shouted at the line of people waiting to get into the DeSantis event on Long Island on Saturday, according to a report from WABC-TV in New York.

Trump supporter Paul Ingrassia said DeSantis is causing a split in the Republican Party.

“He should be endorsing President Trump,” Ingrassia told WABC.

In his speech, DeSantis again accused New York prosecutor Alvin Bragg of politically targeting the former president.

“This guy is doing politics,” DeSantis said. “He has an agenda. That is not the rule of law.”

DeSantis was on Long Island to promote his book, “The Courage to be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival.”

Hundreds of people who wanted to see him lined up outside the museum up to three hours before the event, WABC reported.

“I’m all excited to see DeSantis,” Helen Meittinis said. “I think that he’s a guy who can set our country straight.”

On Thursday, DeSantis tweeted that he would not “assist” in any extradition of Trump from his home in South Florida.

The U.S. Constitution requires states to return people charged with crimes to any state seeking their return. Florida law allows a governor to investigate an extradition request but not stop one.

And extradition apparently isn’t in the cards. Trump’s lawyer has said his client will return to New York voluntarily to be arrested and arraigned on Tuesday.

DeSantis and Trump have been at odds for weeks as the Florida governor ponders a run for the White House. The former president, who endorsed DeSantis’ successful candidacy for Florida governor in 2018, has called DeSantis “disloyal” and nicknamed him “Ron DeSanctimonious.”
