Prince of Wales marks 125th anniversary of submarine service at Scotland’s main naval base

  • The Prince of Wales visited HM Naval Base Clyde, Faslane, to mark the 125th anniversary of Scotland’s main naval base’s submarine service.
  • During his visit, William met Royal Navy personnel, including women submariners and LGBT members, and toured a Vanguard Class submarine, part of the UK’s nuclear deterrent.
  • He also presented The Gold Submariner’s Dolphin award and met families at the Drumfork Community Centre.
  • Separately, three Royal Navy personnel – Lieutenant Lily-Mae Fisher, Lieutenant Commander Chris Gayson, and Petty Officer Owen Green – died in a helicopter crash in Devon on Wednesday.
  • Both the Princess of Wales and King Charles expressed their profound sadness and shock over the tragic incident, with the King acknowledging it publicly and holding a minute's silence.
