President John F. Kennedy pictured passing Cork home on visit to Ireland in 1963 - and it's now on sale for €300k

A Victorian townhouse with unique historic significance has gone up for sale in Cork city - with connections to President John F. Kennedy’s visit to Ireland.

A photo from June 1963 shows the American president’s motorcade passing the red-brick home just four months before he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.

The old colour photograph shows the former residents waving from the two upstairs windows in the background while JFK stands upright in his motor car in the foreground, greeting the Irish crowd.

The two-bedroom end-of-terrace property with its address at 1 Pinafore Villas on Military Road in St Luke’s is currently listed for sale at a guide price of €300,000.

It was built in the late 19th century but was completely renovated by its current owners in 2017 completed with an extension out the back.

The two-bedroom property is located at 1 Pinafore Villas in St Luke's and is currently listed for sale at a guide price of €300,000 (Barry's Auctioneers)

On the ground floor there are two separate living rooms, one with the original fireplace and fitted stove, and a contemporary kitchen with exposed old stone walls, a tiled floor and integrated NEFF kitchen appliances.

The rear extension was designed to maximise the light and space with vaulted ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and sky lights.

Upstairs are the two bedrooms, one double and one single, with timber floors as well as a main bathroom with and electric shower and deep blue wood panelling on the walls.

The property is a 20-minute walk to Patrick’s Street in the centre of Cork city and is also located next to some local artisan shops and pubs in the St Luke’s area.

It is listed for sale with Barry Auctioneers and viewings can be arranged through them.
