Prenton Park to play host to future Lionesses for England friendly

Prenton Park is to play host to the future generation of Lionesses as the U23s team will take on Belgium in an international friendly.

Mo Marley’s Under-23 side will host Belgium at the home of WSL side Liverpool Women and League Two Tranmere Rovers on Monday February 20.

In their last international match-up, NWSL striker Ebony Salmon captained the side as Brighton and Hove Albion’s Katie Robinson scoring the only goal of the game back in October 2021.

Other top-flight names who feature for the under 23s squad are Everton goalkeeper Emily Ramsey (on loan from Manchester United), Brighton and Hove Albion’s defender Poppy Patterson, Manchester United's Maya Le Tissier and Bristol City’s Grace Clinton (on loan from Manchester United).

Liverpool midfielder Missy Bo Kearns and Charlotte Wardlaw, Leicester's Molly Pike, Everton’s Jess Park and Freya Gregory from Aston Villa are also on Marley's roster.

The young Lionesses capped off 2022 with a 2-0 win over the Netherlands at Walsall followed by a goalless draw against Italy in November. Now, they look to impress in Merseyside during what is a busy month for the national teams.

The Women’s U19s prepare for their trip to Spain for fixtures against Germany and Switzerland on Thursday 16th and Tuesday 21st of February while Sarina Wiegman’s side embark on the Arnold Clark Cup.

The second edition of the tournament runs from the 16th to the 22nd of February. The Lionesses make preparations for this summer's Women’s World Cup by taking on Korea Republic on the 16th at Stadium MK, Italy on the 19th at the CBS Arena in Coventry then finally taking on Belgium on the 22nd in Bristol at the Ashton Gate Stadium.

March sees further international action from the youth squads, the U17s begin their next phase of their UEFA EURO qualifiers with three fixtures against Croatia, Norway and Belgium.

While in April the U19s resume their UEFA EURO programme against Slovenia, Belarus and hosts Spain with the top team in each age group progressing to the summer finals.

To see the under 23’s in action at Prenton Park, tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions with schools allowed to apply for up to 10 complimentary tickets alongside England-accredited clubs and are available via the website.

Kick-off is at 7pm.
