Police issue update after seven hurt when vehicle hit pedestrians in Derby

  • A vehicle ploughed into pedestrians outside the Bishop Blaise pub in Derby on Saturday evening, injuring seven people.
  • Two of the victims have since been discharged from hospital, while the others sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.
  • A 36-year-old man, who has lived in the UK for several years, was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.
  • Counter-terrorism officers are assisting with the investigation, though Derbyshire Police have stated the incident is not currently being treated as terrorism.
  • Local officials, including Derby City Council leader Nadine Peatfield and MP Baggy Shanker, expressed shock and concern, with plans to restrict vehicle access on Friar Gate during evenings.
