Piers Morgan branded 'voice of reason' after dramatic Kanye West interview

Piers Morgan has dropped his explosive interview with controversial rapper Kanye West, with viewers taking to Twitter to share their 'disbelief' at finding themselves siding with the TalkTV host.

During the bombshell programme, the rapper who is now known as Ye discussed his relationship with ex-wife Kim Kardashian, his response to the comments he made about George Floyd and his anti-Semitic tweet.

The 45-year-old rapper stormed out of the interview after refusing to apologise for his anti-Semitic comments, before issuing a grovelling apology.

As viewers tuned in to the highly-anticipated show, many took to Twitter to praise 57-year-old Piers, much to their surprise, with some calling the broadcaster "a voice of reason".

One person wrote: "Kanye has me siding with piers Morgan," adding a face palm emoji.

Another said: "I can’t believe we’re in a time where Piers Morgan is a voice of reason and Kanye is off his f***ing rocker and being unapologetically racist."

Praising Piers, a third tweeted: "I feel like Piers is really trying to help Kanye here in this interview.. and that's a wild thought," with another adding: "@piersmorgan You had some patience when he started singing ‘La La La La’."

In the TalkTV programme, Kanye admitted why he accepted Piers' interview request, slamming "censored" American media.

"It feels like an episode of Black Mirror a lot of times," he said.

"So, I've put myself across the line to the point of no return, saying 'hey, I know they're going to say whatever they want about me'.

"When I bring up the truth, they're going to say you didn't get enough sleep, it's because of your health. They're going to call me names for my truth."

Talking about his 'White Lives Matter' stunts, he explained: "There's people who are saying right there in fashion week, 'when are you going home? I’m so afraid' … I'm not going to cancel myself.

"I'm going to keep on delivering what I feel because guess what? It's very split opinions, by the way.

"My dad loved the White Lives Matter T-shirt because what audacity does a black man have to wear the exact same T-shirt that a white man could wear? You know, my dad was a Black Panther."

On freedom of speech, Kanye says: "So whether you agree with me or not, I believe people are going to feel the fact that someone is brave enough to say something.

"Every day I do five things that people have been historically killed for. Every day."
