Piers Morgan accuses 'Meghan and Harry of trying to create 'rival royal family'

Piers Morgan has accused Meghan and Harry of trying to create a "rival royal family" as he furiously blasted the Duke of Sussex's latest comments as "deplorable".

It comes after Prince Harry said that he he wanted to make sure the Queen was "protected" and had "the right people around her" in a recent interview on NBC's Today show.

Harry and Meghan had flown to Windsor from their home in the US before heading over to The Hague in the Netherlands for the Invictus Games.

Today, Piers appeared Lorraine today in his first ITV daytime appearance since his abrupt exit last year after comments he made about Meghan.

Quizzed by host Lorraine on whether he had any regrets about leaving GMB, he replied: "I only regret that ITV tried to get me to apologise for something that I believed in... I didn't believe her then, I don't believe her now."

Going on to speak about Prince Harry's latest interview, he branded it "utterly deplorable".

"This ludicrous statement that he's protecting the Queen," he fumed. "All you do is trash your family."

Piers added: "I think they want to create a rival royal family ... I don't think you can have your royal cake and eat it."

Piers quit GMB, after co-hosting the show with Susanna Reid since 2015, after bosses called for him to apologise for remarks he made about Meghan Markle.

Following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which Meghan claimed that a royal voiced "concerns" over Archie's skin colour and that she felt suicidal but wasn't able to get help, Piers accused her of lying as he fiercely lashed out at her on Good Morning Britain.

After a Twitter battle with weatherman Alex Beresford, Piers called him to appear on the show the next day to debate the topic.

However, a furious row erupted on set, which led to Piers storming off set as Alex called his behaviour "diabolical".

Recently, Piers claimed that he would have slapped his co-star if he hadn't walked off.

Referring to the shocking moment Will Smith smacked Chris Rock live on air, he tweeted in March: "So much snowflakey bullsh*t re Oscars smackdown. You can think Will Smith wrong to slap Chris Rock but still understand why he did it if he thought - incorrectly - Rock was deliberately mocking his wife’s alopecia in front of a gazillion people. I’d have probably done the same."

A rather sceptical follower shared a screen grab of the famous moment he walked off GMB and tweeted: "Course you would!"

Piers quote tweeted the remark and wrote: "Ironically, I walked out to stop myself slapping him…"
