Peter Kay announces new TV project - and he wants superfans to be involved

Peter Kay has shared details of an exciting new television project as part of his highly anticipated return to the stage and he’s calling on fans for help with the.

The Phoenix Nights comedian, 49, returned to the stage for his first live stand-up tour show in 12 years at the end of last year and was met with a standing ovation at Manchester's AO Arena.

The Bolton-born comedian has a raft of tour dates coming up this year and has now announced cameras will be rolling during the shows as part of a documentary on his comeback as well as his much-loved fans.

Peter posted details of the ‘amazing opportunity’ to Twitter on Friday afternoon, asking superfans to apply to take part.

The post read: “Want to take part in a Peter Kay documentary? Do you have tickets to see him in 2023/2024? If so, we want to hear from you!”

The update explained that Wise Owl Films are making a new TV documentary about Peter and his fans and intend on including clips of the comedian’s biggest fans travelling to see the funnyman perform.

The post continued: “Have you got a story about how Peter's comedy has played such an important part in your life?

“Perhaps you're travelling from abroad to see him? Maybe you're planning to surprise a family member with tickets?

“If you'd like the chance to appear in a documentary about Peter Kay, please send us a short video clip of yourself (by midnight Friday February 24th) telling us why you love Peter, what his comedy means to you and when you're going to see him.”

The post then directed fans to the following link to apply for the exciting opportunity as part of his tour.

Peter initially dropped the shock tour announcement during the first advert break of the I'm A Celebrity launch show, dropping jaws across the country as he appeared on screen carrying a large rolled-up carpet.

In the 30-second ad, a man is shown filming Peter through his car windscreen as he shouts questions over to him.

"Hey look, it's Peter Kay. Hey, garlic bread!" the man shouts, quoting Peter's iconic joke.

"It's the future, lads," the comedian quips back as he wrangles the carpet down a driveway.

"When are you back on tour?" the man asks, and Peter replies: "Next month!"

After telling the man that the stand-up tickets go on sale this Saturday, Peter walks off carrying the carpet while explaining he'd bought his mum a bungalow but now she wants a new carpet - a callback to his last tour titled Mum Wants A Bungalow.

An off-screen voice then announced the comedian's first live stand-up tour in 12 years.
