Here's some news for fans of the popular Percy Jackson series! While it is known that author Rick Riordan's bestselling 'Percy Jackson' novels are being adapted for the screen, now the news is that actor Lin-Manuel Miranda has joined its cast. What's more? Lin-Manuel Miranda will be seen as the messenger god Hermes in the 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' series soon.
Sharing the news, a tweet by Percy Jackson's official account read:
Riordan too confirmed the news on his official website. "It's always wonderful when someone so multi-talented and wildly successful turns out to be also a genuinely nice and decent person... Lin-Manuel is that kind of guy."
The author also revealed that Miranda was actually his first choice for Hermes' role in the upcoming series! "Once we'd written the script and had Hermes' lines, I could not get Lin-Manuel Miranda's voice out of my head... I knew he would be the perfect person to bring Hermes to life in all his complex glory. I figured it was a long shot. Lin-Manuel is a busy guy!
"But with our show runners' encouragement, I sent him a note saying, 'Hey, you ever felt like being a god for a couple of days?' To my delight, he was excited to join the Percy Jackson family. His son even provided him with some background reading on Hermes to prep him for the part. I love junior Classicists!," Riordan wrote.
'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' tells the story of a 12-year-old named Percy Jackson, a modern-day demigod who is learning about his superpowers. When Zeus accuses Pery of stealing his lightning bolt, the young boy sets on a mission to find it, clear his name, and restore balance back to Olympus.
Other actors in the cast include: Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Timm Sharp, etc.
According to Riordan, the pilot episode will be directed by James Bobin.
'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' series is expected to released in 2024.
