Pathum labour to draw at Khon Kaen

fine effort: Ikhsan Fandi of Pathum United celebrates his goal against Khon Kaen.

Defending Thai League 1 champions BG Pathum United once again dropped points when they rallied to salvage a 2-2 draw at promoted Khon Kaen United on Saturday night.

A wasted combined effort by Yashir Islame Pinto and Romulo Cabral in the 13th minute was immediately followed by another Khon Kaen United attack which produced their first goal of the match.

Woranart Thongklua broke free from Pathum United defenders and fired a sizzling shot into the top of the net to put the hosts ahead.

However, the lead didn't last long as five minutes later Pathompol Charoenrattanapirom set up Singapore striker Ikhsan Fandi for a blistering drive to level the score for the Rabbits.

A VAR intervention in the 37th minute overturned an on-field off-side ruling against Ibson Melo, giving the home team their second goal.

Pathum United were spared their blushes when Brazilian striker Diogo Luis Santo converted a penalty a little after the hour-mark.

Pathum sacked their head coach Dusit Chalermsan last month after a lengthy barren run. They are waiting for the arrival of former Japan national U23 team coach Makoto Teguramori to take over the reins of the club.

In another match, Police Tero were held to a 1-1 home draw by Nongbua Pitchaya.

Nongbua went ahead in the 35th minute when a Sanchai Nonsila cross was headed home by Nattapon Sukchai.

Barros Tardeli grabbed the equaliser for Police eight minutes into the second half, securing a point for the visitors.

Four more matches are to be played on Sunday with Buriram United hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table with a home victory over PT Prachuap.
