Man arrested over alleged used car key snatch from Mitchell dealership

Two men allegedly snatched a set of keys from a Mitchell car dealership before driving off in a stolen Subaru Outback.

Police allege the pair entered the used car yard about 2.30pm on Friday, July 10, before fleeing in the gold SUV.

CCTV footage from the dealership helped police identify a 32-year-old Lyons man when officers spotted him at a Weston shopping centre on Monday.

The man, who police said was on parole and bail for similar alleged offences at the time, was arrested as he left the centre. Police then found the Subaru Outback nearby.

The 32-year-old is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with jointly taking a motor vehicle without consent, riding in a motor vehicle without consent, and breaching his parole obligations.

Police are still searching for the second man. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting reference number 8442144.
