Packers President Was Asked if Aaron Rodgers Will Be Starting QB in 2023

With each passing week comes a new report regarding where things stand with Aaron Rodgers and the quarterback’s future with the Packers. On Friday, the latest update in the ongoing saga came courtesy of team president Mark Murphy, who was asked if Rodgers will be Green Bay’s QB1 in 2023.

Over the last 24 hours, the idea of Rodgers moving on from the Packers has continued to gain steam following a report that the Jets believe they’re close to acquiring the 39-year-old after meeting with him on Tuesday. After confirming the team would honor a potential Rodgers trade request, Murphy stated both parties are just hoping to find a “win-win situation” when asked if there’s a scenario where he starts for the team next season.

“Yeah, I mean, unless things don’t work out the way we would want, yeah,” Murphy told local Fox affiliate WLUK-TV. “He’s, obviously, a great player, and four-time MVP. But, you know, I think it’s trying to find what he wants and what we want and, hopefully, we can find a win-win situation.”

Murphy’s comment adds to the already rampant speculation that has surrounded Rodgers since the end of the ’22 season. As of Friday, the Jets are the only team that have received permission to speak with Rodgers as he continues to weigh the ideas of staying with the Packers, retiring or asking for a change of scenery.

According to ESPN’s Diana Russini, Rodgers had “extensive in-person” meetings in California with Jets personnel, including team owner Woody Johnson. It was also reported that Johnson “left the meeting excited and satisfied about the potential match.”
