OpenAI Launches Multimodal GPT-4, Adding To Growing Buzz Over AI Stocks

Artificial-intelligence startup OpenAI on Tuesday launched its next-generation chatbot technology called GPT-4, in a move sure to add to the buzz around AI stocks.

The release of GPT-4 is now available to application developers, and it uses a new language model that is multimodal. That means it accepts text, speech, images and video as inputs. Its answers are in text.

At its website, OpenAI said: "We've created GPT-4, the latest milestone in OpenAI's effort in scaling up deep learning. GPT-4 is a large multimodal model that, while worse than humans in many real-world scenarios, exhibits human-level performance on various professional and academic benchmarks."

The news comes as Microsoft has increased its stake in startup OpenAI. Microsoft is looking to take on Google-parent Alphabet in internet search.

GPT-4: Producing Humanlike Responses

Usage of ChatGPT, which uses GPT-3 AI technology, has exploded since its debut on Nov. 30.

ChatGPT uses AI to produce humanlike responses to search queries based on data scooped up from the internet.

OpenAI's launch of ChatGPT, a conversational chatbot, has triggered an AI war between Microsoft and Google. Both Microsoft and Google aim to embed content-creating generative AI technologies into their internet search and office productivity products.

Many other companies plan to embed OpenAI technology such as GPT-4 into new products. They're among the best AI stocks to watch.
