OpenAI has signed an agreement to bring product experimentation startup Statsig into its portfolio. With this acquisition the company is planning to go beyond its core AI research and products like ChatGPT. The AI giant wants to develop tools that help developers and product teams build faster.
Statsig was founded in 2021, it provides services like product experimentation, feature flags, analytics, session replays, marketing experiments, and web analytics. Over the past three years, the company has got traction with clients like Atlassian, Notion, Brex, and Bloomberg.
The company focuses on enabling engineering and product teams to ship smarter and faster. Joining OpenAI will allow the company to align that mission with the rapid adoption of AI across industries. According to Statsig, existing customers will continue to receive full support as the team transitions under OpenAI’s umbrella.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that this is not the only acquisition from OpenAI. Since 2021 the company has been investing in both software and infrastructure to support the global demand for AI tools. Recently a report came stating that the company is planning a massive data center in India under its Stargate initiative, a multi-billion-dollar program to scale AI computing worldwide. The proposed facility, with at least 1 gigawatt of capacity, would be one of the largest in the country.
While details on the India project remain under wraps, the Statsig deal offers more immediate impact for product builders. With OpenAI’s AI expertise and Statsig’s analytics and experimentation tools, the combined effort aims to help teams deliver faster, AI-driven experiences.
