Only Fools And Horses' Patrick Murray 'in pain and struggling to walk' after cancer returns

Only Fools and Horses star Patrick Murray has revealed he is now struggling to walk after his cancer returned.

The 66-year-old actor, who played loveable Mickey Pearce in the hit BBC sitcom, was given the all-clear from lung cancer last year.

But this week, he revealed his cancer is back and has now spread to his legs and pelvis.

In an online post Patrick shared: "Despite all the wonderful efforts by the medical and nursing teams at Medway, Guys, and Kings College hospitals, the lung cancer has returned.

"I thought I had a painful groin strain a couple of months ago, unfortunately that turned out to be the cancer getting into my pelvis and leg bones. It has also entered my lymphatic system.”

In a new chat with The Sun, the TV star revealed he was in excruciating pain and now needs a wheelchair to get around.

The dad-of-one – who has an eight-year-old daughter, Josie, with Thai wife Anong - knows he will have to live with cancer for the rest of his life.

But doctors haven’t told him the cancer is terminal and Patrick is continuing to have chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.

“I’ve gone in there thinking the doctor is going to tell me there’s no chance they can sort this out – it’s spreading, it’s in my blood,” he told the newspaper.

“But he sat me down and said, ‘We’re going to put you on chemo. We should be able to monitor the situation for a few months, years and we’ll keep it under control.”

Patrick – whose Only Fools character famously wore a trilby hat - joked: “I might go bald, but luckily I’m famous for wearing a hat.”

Although he is optimistic for the future, Patrick has described the pain he is in as “absolute agony, murder”.

He shared every time he puts weight on his leg and hips “I’m screaming in my head as I’m’ trying to walk”.

“The loo for me is ten yards away and when I get there I feel like I’ve walked half way round the world,” he said.

Last year, Patrick revealed a part of his liver has been removed after doctors discovered a malignant growth.

Prior to that he announced in January 2022 that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer after doctors discovered a malignant tumour.

But there was better news to come later in the year and five months later, he told fans he was "cured" .

Writing on Twitter at the time, he said: "Thanks again for all your lovely messages. As you may know, I was diagnosed with lung cancer last July.

"After an op in October to remove the tumour I had chemo to help prevent the cancer returning.

"During this chemo, another tumour was discovered in my liver. Luckily for me this cancer was unconnected to the lung cancer and was also treatable. It's not over yet, but as you can imagine I am over the moon with this latest news.”

Although Patrick has suffered another setback, he isn’t letting his latest diagnosis get him down and revealed the radiology treatment is starting to work.

He added: “The pain is getting less, which is fantastic. I should be able to walk again soon.”
