NVIDIA to Invest $100 Billion in OpenAI for 10-Gigawatt AI Systems

OpenAI and NVIDIA have signed a letter of intent for a strategic partnership to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems to power OpenAI’s next-generation AI models. The deal, announced today, represents one of the largest hardware commitments in AI history, with NVIDIA planning to invest up to $100 billion as the systems come online.

The first phase of this rollout is expected to launch in the second half of 2026 using NVIDIA’s new Vera Rubin platform. OpenAI has chosen NVIDIA as its preferred compute and networking partner, and the two companies will co-develop their hardware and software roadmaps to accelerate OpenAI’s push toward superintelligence.

The agreement underscores the growing arms race in AI infrastructure. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said the collaboration will “advance the most powerful AI factories ever built,” while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called the deal a “critical step” in scaling next-gen models for billions of users.

This partnership complements existing collaborations with Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate partners focused on building the world’s most advanced AI infrastructure. OpenAI already reports over 700 million weekly active users, highlighting the growing global adoption of its tools among enterprises, small businesses, and developers.

The company had recently closed a massive $300 billion cloud deal with Oracle, reported last week by The Wall Street Journal. That agreement, which is said to be the biggest computing deal ever, is going to supply OpenAI with Oracle’s cloud resources over five years starting in 2027, as part of Project Stargate.

Together, these deals show OpenAI’s aggressive push to secure the infrastructure needed to stay ahead in the AI race. NVIDIA and OpenAI said they plan to finalize details of their new partnership in the coming weeks.
